Good Night Mister Tom Summaries
1. Meeting: William Beech, an evacuee from London, comes to live with Mr. Thomas Oakley in the countryside.
2. Little Weirwold: William explores some of Little Weirwold, a little village just outside the town of Weirwold, with Mr. Tom.
3. Saturday Morning: Mr. Tom went with Willie to Dr. little to inquire about Willie’s sickliness. When posting a postcard, Willie notices Zach.
4. Equipped: Mr. Tom and Will went out shopping in Weirwold.
5. Chamberlain Announces: Mr. Tom, Mr. Fletcher and William start digging for an air-raid shelter.
6. Zach: Zach and Will work on the trench while Mr. Tom is at a town meeting.
7. An encounter over blackberries: George invites Will, along with Zach, to join himself, Carrie and Ginnie to go pick blackberries, which they do before a picnic.
8. School: School starts, but because Will is illiterate, he is sent to the ‘babies’ class, away from his friends. Back at home, Mr. Tom promises to teach him to read and write.
9. Birthday Boy: It is Will’s ninth birthday, and is given a surprise party.
10. The Case: Zach receives a suitcase from his parents, which is filled with books, plays, dancing shoes and baked goods.
11. Friday: Carrie, Ginnie, George and Zach visit Will at his house. They decide to start a newspaper.
12. The show must go on: Will gets cast as the role of Scrooge in Ms. Thorne’s Christmas play- A Christmas Carol.
13. Carol Singing: Mr. Tom plays the organ for the Carol practice, while William sings.
14. New Beginnings: William joins Mrs. Hart ridge’s class and Carrie inquires about going to high school.
15. Home: Will gets sent home on request from his mother as she is ill, but discovers how awful home is compared to the country. Will’s mother carries on abusing him like she used to. Will finds out that he has a baby sister.
16. The Search: Mr. Tom comes to London to search for William, who has not been replying to his many letters.
