Good Against Evil in Lord of the Flies

“‘There isn’t anyone to help you. Only me. And I’m the beast.’ Simon’s mouth labored, brought forth audible words. ‘Pig’s head on a stick’” (Golding 143). Lord of the Flies is filled with a lot of battles between good and evil. In this instance it’s a good character communing with an evil one; his own head. The book often deals with issues of sanity, madness, and fire. A few of the main incidents include conflicts between an antagonist, Roger, and an important character, Piggy.

The force of good is heavily tested in the Lord of the Flies because the kids are stranded on an island and have to face the unknown that lurks within the forests of the massive island. Sanity is what keeps things in
