What defines something or someone of being evil; how is one truly considered evil? Evil has been defined by so many things. According to Dictionary.com, evil is something that is morally wrong or bad. Evil is also as wicked and or immoral part of someone or something. Common elements of evil are selfishness, ignorance, or neglect. Someone can be evil by doing an immoral act, like murder. Mao Zedong can be considered as an evil person. He has done many immoral actions throughout his life time. In “Lord of the Flies,” Jack can be connected to Mao Zedong. Jack has made some decisions when he has gotten on the island that is morally wrong and bad. Mao Zedong is a person that is considered evil. Evil can be taken in many ways. Someone can do immoral acts and not be evil but it’s when they do those acts often or when it’s just for their own benefits like doing whatever they can to become a leader. Mao Zedong has done many things that are not morally good. He has created the world’s
largest famine and genocide in history which is the worst catastrophe in China’s history. He has killed over 70 million people just to make China great while he was a dictator. Under his rule, he made millions of chinese die by execution, starvation, and suicide, also tens of millions were sent to labor camps. Mao used fear to root out every last dissent which also made them commit suicide. All these actions were done because of Mao Zedong and they were all morally wrong acts which make Mao Zedong an evil person to many people. Jack from “Lord of the Flies” also has some characteristics that can be connected to Mao Zedong and being evil.
Jack can be foreshadowed as becoming a leader like Mao Zedong. In the book, Jack is a hunter that hunts for food and he can use this to his advantage by hiding the meat he finds.On page 93, Piggy says “I’m scared of him,” which makes Jack a character that is feared by some of the boys. He can use this fear to make the other boys not have a difference in opinion like how Mao Zedong has done. If Jack hides the food from the other boys and keep the food to himself, he can make them starve and die. Jack would rather want to become the chief of the whole pack just to seem more superior and use everyone with the title. Page 91 in “Lord of the Flies,” Jack says “Bollocks to the rules!” This shows that he does not care about the rules and would do whatever it takes to make them live better even by doing it with immoral acts as has Zedong has done with his country; becoming a
dictator. Evil is something that is morally wrong or bad. Jack can be the same as Mao Zedong as they both have done evil things during their time. Evil has a broad meaning as to what it is and how can one become evil. People that are considered evil has done some things that are really non humanlike. They have killed, used fear to control others for their own benefits, or they have made people struggle to have a nice or great life. People that are thought to be evil have been disliked by people that were victims of their actions and how it was all for their own benefits, having a selfishness personality. People who are evil are bad and they should regret the things they have done to others and try to become a better person before it is too late.
