Lords of the Flies is a book of surviving. It’s about a group of boys who were stranded on an island. That had to survive being on the island and also had to survive living with each other. The boys try and create a surrounding that feels more like it was when they were back at home. But as time passes they begin to split into two groups, a group of civilized people and a bunch of savages. This essay is describing slow shift from being a civilization to being complete savages in the book Lord of the Flies.
When the boys first got on the island they are trying to be as civil as possible. “They appointed Ralph who is one of the boys as their leader of the group of boys” [pg.23]. This means they were trying to create some sorts of structure. Which when a group of people who are civil under no rules or order they try to do find order and build structure. Because they need some type of order to make things run. But as time goes on that change into something different.
Once all the main boys became developed characters. You saw who was becoming savages and who wasn’t and staying civilized. An example of the group starting to become divided up is. “We ought to know who should be say things. What good did Simon, Bill or Walter do speaking? Its time some people knew they’ve got to keep quiet and leave the deciding to the rest of us” [pg.101-02]. What the basically means is that the stronger people have more say in things. This is more of an animal type thing which is more of a savage type thing. But they still had some had some type of civil minds.
By the end of the book two boys have got killed by others on the island. “Piggy fell forty feet and landed on his back across the square red rock in the sea” [pg.181]. Way the boys killed him shows that they don’t care about human life. Which is really a big sign of savages, and to kill a main character like Piggy is big. The remaining groups of boys also were hunting
