Google Inc. Analysis
GOOGLE INC. History of Google Inc. Google 's founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, met by chance on a Stanford University tour in the summer of 1995. Page, at the time, was working on a PhD research project involving the mathematical properties of the link structure on the internet. The research project, "BackRub", used an algorithm to follow the links in a webpage and analyze all the connections. The PageRank algorithm generated a popularity index for each web page based on the quantity and quality of incoming links. By 1998 Google’s web crawler had indexed 60 million URLs and the company had been formally incorporated. In the next few years Google became the gateway to the internet for the masses, as well as a traffic director that could make or break a company with its search rankings. Google Docs, Gmail, and Google Earth demonstrated the company’s aspiration to move beyond simple web queries, and its ability to merge playfulness with unparalleled functionality. While other companies were busy cramming more motion ads on their homepages and squeezing every last hour of productivity out of employees, Google created an enjoyable experience for every party involved, including users, employees, and investors. Google’s success has come as a direct result of keeping people happy. Google’s Products and Services Google’s Analysis with Mckinsey 7s Model Shared Values Google’s search products bring value to their customers because they provide relevant websites promptly. Many business are dependent upon the traffic AdSense brings to their

The main key factor for Google’s early success was the creation of PageRank algorithm. Stanford graduate students Sergey Brin and Larry Page transformed the spam problem of all search engines into an opportunity by creating an algorithm that favored pages that were referenced by other pages rather than simply counting key words. The page’s importance was determined by counting its inbound links, weighting the links more heavily according to Google’s previous analysis. This resulted in the creation of a reliable search engine that did not return any irrelevant listings or spam. Google was therefore delivering search results that people really wanted. In fact “Google’s mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful”.…

The search engine, Google, has been deemed and is famous for its highly successful search engine. This unit closing case reveals how Google has become a powerful search engine by detailing on how Google works, how revenue is made by ADWords, and by explaining the expansion of Google. Google works with the web server which sends the query to the index servers then travels to the document servers and finally returns the results back to the users. Revenue for Google is made by ADWords, a part of Google’s site, which generates revenue by marketers and advertisers that pay to place their ads on Google’s site. Google allows the possibility of expansion by having their application program interface (API) enable developers to build around the Google search engine.…

Google’s mission, “to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful” 1, speaks to their goals, but does not reflect the way they earn a profit. The statement definitely gives the company a future to strive towards, as it will be quite some time before all of the world’s information is easily accessible even though they have made great strides. The mission statement sets the company up as a resource that would be used by anyone who was doing research whether as part of a thesis or just a question out of curiosity. The mission statement doesn’t give a timeline, it only states the end result. The mission statement is broad enough that it allows for Google to use any means possible to organize information. This means that they are neither limited to search nor are they limited to using the internet in its current form.…

The two combined their knowledge to create a search engine that was much more accurate and efficient than any other at the time. In 1996 Brin and Page launched their “Google” system with a combination of mechanics established by both founders. The system uses a data miner developed by Brin that more efficiently realized patterns within large sets of data and the PageRank system that Larry Page developed, which determines the value of the number of times a link is used, or the pattern the data miner finds.…

Google was founded by Sergey Brin and Larry Page in 1998. In mid-1990s the Internet was emerging and the quest for getting relevant data from the Internet had begun. The solutions provided by Yahoo and AltaVista were not adequate to fill this requirement. In 1996, Larry Page and Brin who were at that time PhD students at Stanford, got together to answer this question. They developed a ranking based Internet search algorithm which prioritized results based on relevance. In 1997 they made it available to the students and faculty of Stanford. By 1998 they had indexed more than 24 million pages, but their growth was limited by capital. They soon found an investor in Andy Bechtolsheim who left them a check for $100,000. The company was intended to be called Googol (100100) but since the check was made in the name of Google they registered their company as we know it today. In 1999 they raised another $25 million from two venture capital firms. Google soon realized that advertizing would fetch more profits than licensing. In 2001, they hired Eric Schmidt as the new CEO of the company. Google was going public in 2004 and an initial price range of $108-$135 was envisioned. By this time Google employees had already been given two installments of stock options at 30 cents and $4 which were exercisable at $35. This sudden increase in the value (due to the IPO) made many employees millionaires overnight. And many employees started quitting Google with their money. Google has had a wonderful run till date. But it is facing some tough times with a cut throat competition from Microsoft and other Software giants.…
