Homily:
The gospel today was just like the gospel last Sunday. But today we celebrate the baptism of Jesus Christ. We celebrate Happy Three Kings, but now we celebrate it as epiphany meaning knowing Jesus. In the gospel today John doesn’t want to baptize Jesus. But why? Our priest told us that John doesn’t want to baptize Jesus because Jesus doesn’t have sins, and he told us also Jesus wants to be baptized because he took our sins. Jesus wants us to be saved from our sins. Jesus as the redeemer. The priest told us also between the earth and heaven there is the sky. When the sky opens a new era will begin because the Holy Spirit went down, this is the meaning the of baptism of Jesus. He will now continue the beginning. When we are baptized we become the son of God. Out priest also told us the fruits of baptism. First is the washing of the original sin, second we become the brother/sister of Jesus. Third we become the temple of the Holy Spirit and lastly we become a family of God. He also told us that because of baptism we are cured and qualified to see God face to face in time.
Personal Reflection: I remember, when I was in Tarlac, an old woman was talking to her daughter who just had a baby. Her baby was always sick at the time. Then I heard the old woman told her daughter “ Kaya siya laging may sakit kase hindi mo pa pinapabinyag”. Then I remember what the priest told us the when we are baptized we are being cured. Not just physically but also we are cured from our original sin. When we are baptized we are now qualified to continue the mission or the beginning. As the son of God and brother of Jesus we are now a member of the Church therefore we are now made to join in his mission. Through baptism it gives us access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God.
