When the colonists created the united states they did it with the purpose of trying to deny a tyranny from happening. A tyranny is when a person or a group of people have complete control. At first the articles of confederacy were created to prevent the rise of a tyranny, but it was too noncontrolling and let a lot of things slide by. Ways that the Constitution guard us from tyranny are by dividing powers between branches of government evenly, dividing powers between the central and state governments using checks and balances, and in the Legislative
Branch there is equal representation from all the states.
The Constitution guards us from tyranny by dividing the branches of government.
“Liberty requires that the great departments of powers should be separate and distinct.”(Document B). This means that the judicial branch should be completely different from the executive and legislative branch. The different branches could have different viewpoints to make sure everyone is protected the government. This prevents a tyranny by making people not want to try to take over the government because they would have to penetrate three layers of defense. The constitution guards us from tyranny by using checks and balances. In james madison's essay it states “… the constant aim is to divide and arrange the several offices in such a manner as that they may be a check on the other… (The three branches) should not be so far separated as to have no constitutional control over each other.”(Document C) This means the other branches keep track of the other branches to make sure they are all equal. approving or denying something that the other branch has done. If one branch becomes over powered then a tyranny can develop causing one branch have control over the whole government.
