Government Essay Legislative

I think the Legislative Branch is effective because it is the most important branch in the government. Some of the important jobs that this branch does is make and pass laws, impeach people who do wrong things and gives the people of the USA a voice. It is basically the most powerful branch and without it laws wouldn’t exist.
The House of Representatives with 435 members have the soul power to start the impeachment process. If the reps think a US official is not right for our country they have a chance to vote and get rid of the official. This also prevents Presidents and other officials from getting away with misconducts, treason and bribery. The house of representatives is also an important part of the Legislative branch, because it is where originated. First being put in the hopper, and then read by a clerk. The clerk then gives it a title and number, the speaker of the house assigns it to a committee and it is sent to the senate. Without this long process we may not have laws and are country would be hectic.
The Senate with 100 members also takes part in the impeachment process. They become the jury and come up with a verdict upon the official being tried. So they also help with the decisions on who is right for our country. The Senate can also use filibusters to block or delay legislation if they think they would lose the vote. The Senator then has all the reins of the vote and bill thus changing and stopping the Senate for as long as they keep talking.
Interest groups benefit the people by giving them a voice on what they believe in. it is also legal in the constitution. There are private and public interest groups but both stand up for what they think is right. Interest groups are allowed to make posters and have propaganda to express their beliefs.
The Legislative Branch is and effective branch that we need in our Government. If we had a vote on to keep the legislative branch vote yes because without it a lot

The US federal legislature is bicameral, therefore it consists of the Senate and the House of Representatives, and in theory they should both be of equal power. However, in reality it is the Senate which is considered to hold the most power, although there are arguments to in favour of them having equal rights. In order to reach a balanced judgement I will consider both sides of the argument, beginning with the claim that the Senate is more powerful than the House of Representatives.…

Congress in the US is granted all legislative powers by the Constitution, the power to appropriate funds, regulate trade and commerce and to formally declare war. Although the President imposes his will on all of these activities Congress is still an extremely important and powerful body; arguably today it has a superior mandate as President Bush was elected on a popular minority and less recently. Congress is regularly re-elected (every two years) and because of the diversity of the US population it represents a very broad range of interests. The Gingritch years in the House of Representatives show how a reassertion of power in Congress can shape the political landscape in the US.…

The House of Representatives has many jobs such as electing the President in the case of a tie (The Legislative Branch). "The Senate has the sole power to confirm those of the President's appointments that require consent, and to ratify treaties (The Legislative Branch)." The first step of a bill becoming a law is the introduction to Congress. Congress is the only part of the US government that can make or change laws. For a bill to be passed it must be accepted by the Legislative branch and the president. The House of Representatives can "fire" any elected official (The Legislative…

But did our founding fathers get it right? In my opinion they may have overlooked an important check on a very powerful branch of the government. I consider the legislative branch to be the most powerful of our branches. The legislative branch, also known as Congress, is very large having a total of 535 members, 100 Senators and 435 members of the House of Representatives. Senators are elected officials serving six year terms before coming up for reelection. Representatives are elected officials serving 2 year terms before coming up for reelection. Currently there is no limit to the number of terms a congressman can serve and in most cases a congressmen runs for reelection continually, meaning that, if they keep winning, they could basically hold their congressional seat for life. This, in effect, has produced professional politicians, a group of individuals with ongoing authority and influence. Is it wise to allow the legislative branch to continue with this optimal power position unchecked? Was this the intent of the founders who designed the…

In the 19th century a new trend of writing appeared in the American literature called, realism and it is defined as the “faithful representation of reality”. Writers attempt to document life as it “without romantic idealization or dramatization” and “character is more important than action and plot”. Two short stories are representative of realism “The Yellow Wallpaper” and “The Story of An Hour.” In these stories Charlotte Gilman and Kate Chopin characterize women who are being dominated by a manly society and who do not see women more than a simply spouses or mothers. However, they are faithful believers that women in reality are beings that should be allowed to express themselves because they…

In creating the legislative branch, the founding fathers inherently chose after a compromise to divide congress into two chambers. The concept of having both chambers inherently different from each other encouraged checks and balances and ensured that each legislature that passes is deliberately reviewed. Additionally, to prevent a tyranny of the majority from prevailing in among the chambers, the founding fathers distributed several exclusive powers among the House of Representatives and the U. S Senate. The US senate, according to America’s Democratic Republic was intended to represent all the states equally, and “called for the election of senators by state legislatures, not by the people” .…
