Students have heard of the national holiday, Earth Day. Students have grown up in classroom that have recycling bins therefore all students have prior knowledge on recycling. This lesson is aimed towards learning more about helping the earth and their communities. They will learn ways to help their communities through the importance of recycling. Students are interested in learning more about ways to help their community, and knowing they can help the environment no matter what age they are.

Formal: In conferences with the students I will ask the student what the three R’s of waste management are. I will also ask the students to give me one way we can help our community and school. This way I can see if they retained information from the lesson.
Informal: During closing circle, I will ask the children to either pick one way they can help the school or environment, or they can tell me one fact they learn about the environment from the book. I will also use observation to see if the children are using the new vocabulary learned from the
