Graduation Speech: Going Back To School
Good evening,
Going back to school for me was a no brainer decision for me. I’m active in the National Guard and the military loves college credits. It will help me get promoted to the next rank quicker and it will also open up doors for me to attend other military training. Not only will going back to school help me with my current career, but upon completion of my program, I will have options to explore other fields of professions. Organizational leadership skills can take me a long way with departments such as my hometown police department, the FBI, and even important management positions within different companies. Before I enrolled in this degree I looked up a few titles associated with it. Among these titles are Chief Executive Officer,

During my first year at Florida State University I plan to grow as an individual. To achieve this is not only important to fill in your head with loads of knowledge, but also to see other cultures, meet new people, discover myself, discover my weaker and/or stronger points, and squeeze my stronger abilities at my maximum to achieve my goals. I plan to help others as much as I’ve been doing until now, or even more. I believe in creating a better atmosphere where peers help each other in whatever they need. I’ve been lucky spent almost sixteen years of my life in a school where they taught me to excel by working as a team. I plan to bring these philosophy to FSU because if instead of competing with one another, we bring what we are best at to…

This is my essay on why people need to really consider going back to school in pursuit of a college degree. One without such a degree is more than likely to struggle throughout life, as well as in other areas in life. In this essay, I will explain why it is so important and how high the demand for such an education has risen and where the demand is more than likely to end up.…

The most valuable, interesting, and useful that I learned is the value of liberal arts education comes from the diversity of subjects. As a liberal arts major, I can do anything I want with the degree. I believe that there are a lot of employers that would recommend a liberal arts education as the best way to prepare for success in today’s world. Some of my military retired colleagues say they would give hiring preference to college graduates with skill that enable them to contribute to innovation in the workplace. That’s because the degree in liberal arts provided me the abilities I need to work and contribute anywhere. The purpose this degree is not to prepare me for one specific job. It’s to give me a broad ability to adapt to a multitude…

I’m the Happiest man alive” this is what I was saying to myself on 16 May 2013 as my eldest daughter’s name was called and she walked a crossed the stage in the auditorium of University of Missouri Saint Louis. (Franklin, 2013) “Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning”. Four years ago my daughter graduated high school and I was unable to attend because of my military obligation of being deployed overseas. On the day of the graduation I contacted my family via Skype and after speaking to my wife and other children my eldest daughter finally sat in front of the computer so I can…

It was the day that I was dreading all week. It was the day my brother was leaving for college. Since the day i was born me and my older brother have been really close. We liked the same things, hung out with the same people, and played on the same sports teams. We did everything together. As time went on nothing really changed even through high school we were still really close. The day he was leaving for college I was at my friends house and didn’t want to go home until the minute he was leaving. I didn’t want to see him until he left because i knew it was going to be hard for me to watch him leave so i figured if i didn’t see him until he said bye it wouldn’t be as bad. Another part of me also didn’t want to show him weakness, that i was…

I’m going to talk about going back to school farthing my education. From the time i graduated from high school i always want to go back to school. I never took the time to do so. I would always look into going back to school or talk about going back to school but never took the time to go. Until one day I started working in child care and that moated me to go even more. Going back to school was hard for me because i looked at it as if I didn't have any money to go to school. I over came all that and went on line to apply for school, and now I am attending Ashford University College. I am going for my Associates in Early Child Hood. Therefore, returning back to school to complete my degree after 7 years was very rational and thinking it out it me and my husband that it was time. We are sometime told that experience is the key to get the perfect job, but I disagree with that, have a degree in that field will help you in and getting that opportunity from a manager or boss will landed you that perfect job. But in years in the workforce I have learned that is not always the case. Employers will sometime use the fact that you don’t have a degree against you and after miss some jobs I really want I refuse to let this happen to me every again. I want from this day forward to be armed with everything that the next candidates have and so I can feel that I belong with them. Today’s workforce is forever growing and in order to land that big jobs or promotion you must be able to compete with other and have extra special things that make you stand out. Experience is very important almost key in some cases, but in my opinion having a college degree will help and will make you very marketable and wanted. Sometimes have a degree or other credential will set you apart from all the other candidates and most of the times that will work in you advantage to…

The economy was starting to decline and like many other people, my mom got laid off from her job as an insurance agent for the St. Paul Companies. Between both my parents we lived comfortably for the most part, but after she lost her job things started to change. With two young kids to take care of, my mom had to start cleaning houses as a temporary job, but money was still tight. Finally my parents decided it wasn’t going to work and she had to find a more stable job. The only way to do that was to go back to school. So in 2006 my mom went to school to become a nurse. She didn’t receive and financial aid making paying for her college even tougher. My family had to make some sacrifices in order to help my mom go to school. We had to tighten our budget because we were only living off my dad’s income. It was scary even for me as an eight year old. I could tell…
