It’s all flashy cars, hot girls and big houses. But it is not reflective of real life, or a healthy, sustainable world. Young boys and even grown men aspire to be world recognised soccer players. They know everything about their heroes lives because it is smeared across the tabloids every, single morning. Meanwhile the developing affairs of the world go unwatched. I’m all for hobbies, and I know there is a lot of enjoyment in sport. But extreme fandom is not an acceptable substitute for an active, cultured, rewarding life. The obsession with celeb magazines for woman might be equated with the male obsession with fantasy leagues and tournaments. Again, the fact that a young guy might know exactly how much Thierry Henry has spent on all his cars might be seen as cool by his friends, but it’s not going to help him lead a worthwhile life.
