Heather Mac Donald says that graffiti is produced by gangs. Gangs probably started tagging but other people decide to make it better and call it graffiti. Gonzalez says “ The line between tagging and gangbanging is very thin now” tagging is what gangbangers do and graffiti is for artist people that do better stuff with their talent. If you notice people that tag on walls theirs tagging doesn't stay there for a long time it gets painted over and on the other hand people that do art on walls or as it is best known people that do graffiti on walls their work actually stays wherever they do it because people don't complain about it. Heather Mac Donald mentions Carlos Mesa in her article he claims that he followed his mentor into graffiti and drugs. Carlos blames his mistakes on one person his mentor but when in reality it was his own choice I don't think his mentor threatened him to do something he didn't want to do he obviously knew what he was doing he knew the consequences Carlos should mature more and take the responsibility for his mistakes. She also brings up how “every midnight hour a child spends “tagging” or “piecing” is an hour not spent studying or sleeping” I have people on my life who do graffiti but they still do their homeworks and have better grades than me. Some kids do that because they rather express their feelings out to the world instead of keeping their emotions in. With some teenagers an emotion can actually bring them down or ruin their whole day. A reason why people don't like graffiti is because it challenges authority and represents the people's voice without any infiltration. Heather says that graffiti museums are expected to be crowded with with just blacks and Hispanics. Racism has nothing to do with graffiti anyone that has that talent does
