Grand Theft Auto: V

Grand Theft Auto: V, the latest installment in the Grand Theft Auto franchise is a vast open world based video game that grabs the player by the throat and keeps you up all night playing non-stop. Unlike previous Grand Theft Autos, Rockstar, the game’s producer lets you play as three main characters instead of one: each with their own unique personalities and stories. This time, it is nothing short of that very essence which makes the game so real, but also an epic fiction.
The concept in the game is very well put together. “Grand Theft Auto: V is not only a preposterously enjoyable video game, but also an intelligent [and sharp-tongued] satire of [modern] America. It represents a refinement of everything that Grand Theft Auto: IV brought to the table [five years ago]” – IGN. Grand Theft Auto: V takes place in the insanely huge city of Los Santos. Influenced by the city of Los Angeles in California, Grand Theft Auto: V has a lot of very similar famous attractions and locations. The three main characters in the game are Michael, Franklin, and Trevor. Grand Theft Auto: V introduces these main characters one at a time, giving you a good while to see what they are like and how they live. Out of the two, Michael and Trevor go way back in a criminal friendship with totally opposite personalities; with that come huge problems. GTA V is a big melting pot of the things gamers want in a video game. “The tale of Michael, Trevor, and Franklin’s partnership is an [adolescent] boy’s power fantasy, a [ridiculous] litany of rash decisions punctuated by screaming matches and fueled by rage.” – TechHive. Franklin on the other hand, is just trying to get by in life, dreams of living large and getting away from the ghetto slums of Los Santos. He struggles with his best friend Lamar and his Aunt who believe there is no way to get out of the hood. He and Michael initially meet when Franklin’s boss, Simeon, calls Franklin and orders him to reposes a

In Vermeer’s Hat: The seventeenth Century and the Dawn of the Global World, Timothy Brook uses Vermeer’s paintings to show the effects of trade on the world and the overall globalization occurring. Brook argues that this globalization had begun in the seventeenth century. He takes a look at Vermeer’s paintings, and uses them as windows into seventeenth century history to discuss further topics of interest. Through every painting, it leads to a door that causes a discussion point of the history of the world. Brook starts the story setting out in the city of Delft in the Netherlands. This author does not simply restate history facts we all know, he goes much deeper than that, getting to the heart of each painting and the history shown throughout each one, proving his arguments to be true. Through every painting, it led to a door that caused a discussion point of the history of the world.…

From the day Vincent was born, he had always been concidered as highly flawed, and as an 'invalid'. His parents were planning on carrying on the family name with their first born child by calling Vincent, Anton, after his father, Antonio. However, once finding out that Vincent was prone to illness' such as neurological disorder, manic depression, attention deficit disorder, heart failure, and was expected to live for only 30.2 years, Vincent's father felt that he wasn't worthy of the family name, and decided to call him Vincent Anton instead. Mother and Father, Maria and Antonio had a second child, who Antonio felt was worthy of the family name, because unlike Vincent who was conceived the natural way, Anton was born through genetic engineering. As the two boys grew up, Anton was always considered superior to Vincent as he was always upstaging him at everything they did. Until one day, when the two boys played a game of chicken. Like usual, Anton was expecting Vincent to turn around and swim back to shore. However, no matter how much effort he put into trying to beat his brother, Anton and Vincent were neck and neck the whole swim. Anton was confused at how Vincent still had the energy to swim, and finally Anton wasn't able to go on any longer and he gave up. Passing out and starting to drown, Vincent saved his brother's life. For the first time in their lives, Vincent was better than Anton at something. Even though everybody believed that he wasn't good enough to acheive his goals, Vincent now believed that he could achieve anything that he set his mind to. Vincent decided to run away from home and he got a job as a janitor at Gattaca. This was his first glimpse of Gattaca, and he liked what he saw.…

The 1997 science fiction drama film Gattaca by Andrew Niccol illustrates a dystopian world condemning genetic engineering which plays a primary role in determining whether the human being will be genetically superior or genetically inferior. Niccol utilizes his ‘degenerate’ protagonist, Vincent, to highlight the flaws of a system which encourages predeterminism over ambition and discrimination over acceptance. A society is presented where love has no value and one’s genetic make-up is more important than their intelligence and physicality.…

Grand Theft Auto has been on the market since 1998 and since then 30 million copies have been sold (A Guide For College and Beyond, 2010, p. 494). After reading the article, The Color of Mayhem by Michael Marriot, I found out that over the years issues of this and many other video games have risen dramatically. Racial stereotyping, discrimination, and violence were explained as the most looked at. Parents are suspecting kids are learning ways from the game they are playing. Is the video game actually giving kids the wrong image or is it all just for fun?…

The ethical issues presented in Gattaca are ethical egoism, psychological egoism, sacrifice and the possibilities of radical perfection. It challenged the worthiness of the consequences of extreme self serving efforts; to take risks; to do the impossible despite public opinion. These ethical issues are based on the main character, Vincent. He uses these ideologies to achieve his goal of perfection, defying the constant disapproval of his parents which alienated him as a child.…
