The Greek and Roman civilizations both had a lasting impact on our society today. Rome and Greece were both very powerful and wealthy. They had some things in common, and Rome learned a lot of things from the Greeks. But in some ways they were also very different. They both also had other things and people that influenced them. Because of Rome and Greece we now have things that we need and use everyday such as Democracy from the Greeks and Roads from the Romans. Although both civilizations had a great lasting impact, I think that Rome had a bigger and more important impact on our society today.

First, they developed branches of government that the U.S based their branches off of. They also used checks and balances like we do in the U.S. The Romans also invented the Rule of law and the Rights of the accused. Rule of law is important because it states that everyone is under the law and that helps now because if it didn’t exist then certain people wouldn’t follow the law. Then there is the Rights of the Accused. This helps innocent people have a more fair trial and gives everyone certain rights until they are proven guilty.However, Greece still created a type of government that many countries still use. Democracy is still used by the U.S today. But, we do not use the exact same democracy as the Athenians. They only created the first version. We made it our own. Even though this is true, Rome still had a greater impacts on today, with it’s many rules and laws that have changed our legal systems.
In conclusion, Greece and Rome both had very powerful influences on our world today. They did have their similarities and differences , but being a little different and a little similar helped them come up with new things and have new ideas. As I said before , they both created great things that benefited our world. But, I think Rome had a greater impact. They created more things that we still use today such as concrete and arches, and Greece doesn’t compete with everything they gave
