Law Abiding Citizen
In the United States there are questions among U.S citizens draws attention among those who feel passionate about the issue of gun control. Gun control is an issue that has affected many individuals physically and personally. However, most individuals often strongly support or oppose it. A series of devastating events in the past few decades have raised questions about whether gun control laws are necessary to stop horrific shootings such as: The Columbine Shooting, The Virginia Tech Massacre, and most recently the Colorado Movie Theater Massacre. One problems that the gun ban will infringe upon the rights of law abiding citizens to bear arms, and most likely will not prevent criminals from criminal uses of guns. First and foremost, I must state that I am a law abiding gun owner and I believe that those who desire to purchase a gun, should do so legally, with a background check. I am also firm believer in the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution which states, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed,” According to USConstitution.net (2009), (Amendment 2). In addition, I believe that the statement, “guns don’t kill people, people kill people”, speaks to the truth that a gun is a tool that can be mistreated like any other tool. An axe can be used to hit a baseball or to hit a person; the choice is up to the swinger of the bat. I believe that owning a gun is consistent with self-preservation and the ideals of liberty and freedom. As the father of the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson once said,
"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms ... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes ... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be
