On January 16, 2016 the “American Sniper” widow, Taya Kyle, said to CNN, “Restricting our freedoms to protect against the very few who want to do evil would be a mistake”. Taya Kyle has been a huge fan of guns and says she does not need one but recently she has became a gun owner. She claims the man who shot and …show more content…
killed her husband, Chris, worked in an armory with access to every high powered weapons for years, but did not decide to kill anyone until he was out of an environment of accountability and drug testing. “Simply having a weapon did not make him a murderer. His life choices did.” (Taya Kyle). This quote from the article illustrates that no gun law could ever stop people from killing others; people kill people not guns.
“Radical Islamic terrorists are not deterred by gun control laws”(DeFilippis and Hughes). This demonstrates that criminals and terrorist do not care about the law so therefore they will not follow it. “An investigation by the Trace revealed that 95% of terrorism deaths in the U.S. between January 2002 and August 2015 were caused by firearms” (DeFilippis and Hughes). Terrorist attacks use to be bombings but now they have switched over to firearms. Even with the new and old gun control laws that are in the U.S. terrorist do not care, nor do criminals living in the U.S. about gun violence. From 2014 to 2016, the total numbers of deaths, injuries, and mass shootings have gone up with firearms, according to www.gunviolencearchive.org.
Some may argue that gun control laws are necessary and keep people safe. “America has experienced at least 85 mass shootings in the last three decades and the daily toll of gun violence is no less horrific, taking the lives of approximately 92 people every single day, most of them slain with handguns”( Volsky and Glaze). With this said the government has made several new laws to keep the people protected. They have even banned military weapons, shotguns, and detachable large-capacity magazines. With these guns banned from states they are to believe this will stop and reduce shootings and mass killings.
In conclusion, many could argue that the gun control laws are good and they should be enforced.
The thing these people do not think about is terrorists and criminals do not listen to the law. They just do what they want. Another thing is people do not seem to understand that guns do not kill people, people kill people. Banning military weapons and more will not solve the gun violence there is in the U.S. and it will not stop terrorists or criminals from getting these illegal weapons.
