Gun control is the most ongoing controversial issue within the world today. When President Obama was in office, with the help of his administration, they proposed and set forth a rule that prevented the mentally ill from buying guns. The Social Security rule was put forth an effort for better enforcement of the existing laws that barred the mentally ill from getting guns that were hard to enforce due to some medical records not being included in the federal database. Instead of focusing on trying to just ban or restrict certain guns or individuals from obtaining guns, the focus should be more towards the overall effects of guns and how to eliminate them. The relation between guns and inequality is a great deal. Before laws are put in place to strike down guns ownership or carrying, there should be strategies put in place to achieve social justice and economic empowerment. Gun usage drive inequality just as inequality drive gun usage. As gun usage increases, society becomes more violent and less stable, especially in low-income areas or disadvantaged communities. The vulnerable groups lack the political power to propose or give their positions of support for gun restrictions because they are left defenseless and meaningless. Due to being defenseless, these violent minds contribute to racism and hate which leads to the easy availability of guns being taken advantaged of and put to use for the wrong reason. As those that support gun control fight, they are up against a strong position as their opponents have a strong argument using liberty and individual rights. But as long as supporters argue that moving beyond public safety and invoking equality, they will have a greater chance of making progress with the gun policy as the equal protection law will not be
