Gun Violence Video Analysis

The video spoke on the gun violence that is taking place in Chicago. Gun violence and gang leaders are the main reason for the numerous amounts of death in Chicago. After doing some research, Chicago continues to with the highest homicide rates in the United States. In Miles Bryan’s article he states that, Chicago has had more than 700 homicides in the year of 2016. In September of 2016 he also states that the city of Chicago surpassed 2015s killings by 470. (Bryan. M, 2016). A theory that connects with the video is the social cognitive theory. The reason why the social cognitive theory relates perfectly with the video is because in the video, Ameena Mathews pointed out that, the little kids are observing everything that the older people are doing.
She would advocate for the families that are looking for peace. Ricardo “Cobe” Williams who is another actor is one who has been working for years trying to prevent violence through a Chicago project for violence prevention program. Cobe is also traveling around the country training interrupters about violence (Khan, A., 2012, meet the interrupters). Another actor in the video was Eddie Bocanegra. According to the website, Eddie was finishing his undergrad social work program. He has also begun a group that helps families who have lost a child due to violence (Khan, A., 2012, meet the interrupters). As to my thoughts and opinions, I believe that the actors are doing a really great job in working on lowering the gun and gang violence in Chicago. Being that Chicago is the state with the highest gun violence, Chicago will need all the help they could receive. Working with the younger population is the most important part because of the social cognitive theory, that theory really plays a huge role for a child while growing up.
