Gunpowder is one of the revolutionary Chinese inventions that has greatly changed the modern world. Gunpowder is mainly used to fuel military weapons, such as bombs and guns. Gunpowder was first introduced during the Song and Mongol periods where it was developed and used by the Chinese to overthrow the Mongols. Chinese alchemists experimented with saltpeter, hoping it would develop a formula that could extend life. Instead, they found out that it had explosive properties. After gunpowder was developed, the Chinese made other weapons that were fueled by gunpowder, most notably artillery shells and the flamethrower. “They may have believed that saltpeter could extend life.
