Gunther: A Short Story
“Lisa, come to talk with your old grandpa and his friend Gunther,” said Nathan eagerly.
Lisa was a twelve grader, and she loved history, that’s why Lisa appreciated the time she spend with her grandfather, a WWII veteran.
“Sure, what are we going to talk about?” replied Lisa.
“First of all, let me introduce you to my friend Gunther. He’s also a WWII veteran”- Said Nathan.
“Really?! Did you fought as part of the U.S Army or the United Kingdom or maybe the French?” asked Lisa with eyes of expectation and excitement.
“Actually, I was part of the German Army,” replied Gunther.
Lisa’s face after hearing this became serious. “Oh! So you were a Nazi” - said Lisa in an angry tone.

Sadly I can’t denied what they did but what I can do is tell you a little story” –said Nathan with confidence.
In 1939, a man named Adolf Hitler, mobilized his whole nation in order to go to war. The people from Germany were amused by the words of his new leader, therefore they didn’t hesitate when he wanted to expand the Fatherland. His discourse was so strong that nobody doubted him. Even though, military service was mandatory, Gunther, blinded by the words, the speeches and the charisma of his leader, decided to join the German Army.
The USA decided to enter the war. Since democracy was the base of the nation, they didn’t force people to go to war, nevertheless, they realized that media was the key element to produce the manpower that was desperately needed. That’s what caught the attention of Nathan, the amount of propaganda against the Axis forces and the discourses used by politicians to encourage people to fight, had an effect on him and later that year, he joined the US Army.
It was 1944 and they finally met in combat. Normandy was the place where both lives changed forever.
Nathan, overwhelmed by the German defenses, was injured in his right leg, he started to lose blood rapidly and none of his fellow companions were around to help him. He was
