Jay Gatsby can be considered “great” based on several aspects. First off, to get a real sense of his achievements, you have to know about his past. He was born James Gatz to an extremely poor farming family in North Dakota, and always hated his poverty. He ended up going to St. Olaf College in Minnesota, which he promptly dropped out of, because he was "dismayed at its ferocious indifference to the drums of his destiny.” He then went to Lake Superior, where he met and befriended a copper tycoon named Dan Cody.…
The Flexner Reports’ importance and it’s implication on today’s medical schools cannot be understated. Prior to the report being completed and released, many medical schools had little in common with one another and did not provide the adequate training needed to produce well rounded and educated doctors. After the report was released in 1910, it took only until the 1920’s for major reform to occur. This new curriculum and its basic core are being used in today’s schools of medicine.…

Gymboree is a program designed to help children learn and develop through play. This is a unique program because it incorporates parents within the program. The program I evaluated was a preschool prep program designed for children from the age of 28 months to 3 years old. Preschool prep is structured like a preschool class and helps the child prepare for when they start preschool. The class I evaluated was held two days a week from 2:30-4:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I attended the Tuesday class on October 15, 2015. Gymboree has locations across the country; however, I attended the one located at Valencia Mall in Valencia, CA. Demographically, 76% of the population is Caucasian (source?). Valencia is a suburb of Los Angeles, and is known…
The gym is a place where a typical American college student goes to work out their bodies to achieve societies idea of the “perfect body.” While I have been to the gym many times before due to swimming obligations I have not taken the time to observe the other people around me. Since I was facing backwards I did not have to look at what the people in front of me were thinking of my peculiar behavior. After the line began to shorten the empty calm space became full with two couples behind me. Once they realized what I was doing the must have felt uneasy from my non-conforming performance. All four of the individuals acted like they did not notice me. We all went about our business and I proceeded to checkout with an item. This first experience was the most easygoing of the three trips and undoubtedly the least embarrassing. The second outing to Walmart I went into a line backwards with my shopping cart full of groceries. Three young women came up and began to awkwardly look away. This made me feel unsettling and I quickly became deindividualized. I was obviously ashamed of my bizarre behavior, as I thought about what these peers of the opposite sex are thinking of me and my actions. Oddly enough though I was only doing something so minor that not everyone else does. My final experience I had gotten the awareness of this project down so I attempted to add to the unusual behavior. While I…
Banning alcohol dug Americans into a really deep hole that was hard to escape. Prohibition, also known as the eighteenth amendment, was the act of banning alcohol in America. Alcohol created many problems, so people who were supporters of the banning of it, “Prohibitionists” thought that just getting rid of it completely would solve every problem. This idea that getting rid of something entirely just because it causes problems was not well thought through. Women and people involved in religion were usually supporters of Prohibition. Women believed it caused problems in the home and in their marriages, and people involved in the church and religion believed alcohol consumption had too many negative effects.…
My grandfather was a military trauma surgeon. My parents used to tell me the story of how he saved many lives during the Second World War. I was fascinated to see his name in the Martyr Hall of Honor. At a grass root level this was my childhood inspiration of being a Doctor. I have travelled and studied in my places in the world, namely: Qatar, India, Oman, UK, and Canada. In each of these countries I saw a diverse cultural community. My exposure to people from all these countries led to be open minded and considerate to different cultures. Each of these countries had a different degree of health criticality, but all of them viewed and respected the work of a physician as a miracle worker. At the age of 12, when I was in the Middle East I saw…
