To me the Haitian revolution was successful due to the will power of the people. The slaves were tired of being suppressed and wanted change. Slavery accounted for nearly eighty percent of the population in Latin America. The slaves did not speak the native language. A language differing from the slave owners aided in the revolution due to they could speak to each other about certain events without getting caught by their masters.
People over time will fight and stand up for what they believe, even if that means violence. Violence attracts attention to the situation, good as well as bad. Violence may not always be the answer, but it can move and motivate people. In America we have seen this over and over again. Situations such as Martin Luther King Civil Rights movement, and Malcolm X. They were overworked, and yet were expected to work longer. Some of them were given two hours a day for freetime, along with Sundays and holidays. Slaves often were given a small patch of tillable land to take care of and to feed their families. Slaves often took their goods uptown and sold them at local farmers markets. Having a little spending helped the morale within the slaves ,but it still was a rough life being a slave. This was surprising to me due to they had these freedoms. It may have helped the slaves having this little extra spending money, another reason their rebellion was successful. Selling things at the local farmers markets potentially allowed them to see more of life outside of being a slave. Seeing these differences may have helped motivate acquaintances to help make sure the rebellion would be successful. When the slaves interact with others at the market it also could have helped educate them with their people skills, another good skill to have for a successful
