There is no shortage of "explanations" for the fall of the Roman Empire. Christianity, the decline people wanting to be apart of the community, the growth bad military, the unethical government --each of these has been proclaimed the chief cause of Rome's destruction. In fact, however, the fall of Rome was bound too happen since the government was so corrupt, in basic terms the base of the empire just fell apart and led to the social, political, economical and military issues. Each document in this essay explains a different reason based on the DBQ. Essentially, the problem was that the difference between the rich aristocrats and the poor serfs got bigger and bigger. The rich got richer as the poor got poorer. The four main issues were caused either socially, politically, economically and the military.

didn't believe that it was worth saving. Why would they save there home when they weren't allowed to take part in government, and weren’t able to protect themselves. The gradual weakening of the moral fiber of the citizens was evident in amusements, literature, and people’s changing lifestyles, marked by violence and gratuitous sex. Everyone was accustomed to the bread and circus life, and they were just fine living off that.

A major reason for the empire decling was the economy The An example would be when it started and the Empire started to decline, business stopped because the empire stopped expanding and once it ceased to expand the economy went down the drain.
On top of that the abundance of slaves led to a lot of people buying land that came to dominate agriculture. Besides manual labor, slaves performed many domestic services, and might be employed at highly skilled jobs and professions. Teachers, accountants, and physicians were often slaves. Large amounts of the money went to the army and huge government that had unnecessary needs. The expenses led to strangling taxation which then had a domino effect and people had to either quit or got fired because there wasn’t enough of everything for everyone. The state was required to take over the kinds of businesses that were necessary. People learned to expect something from nothing, in the sense that they would sit around all day and complain when things don’t get
done.

Soldiers were promised higher cash rewards for joining the army, as a way to get more people to enlist in the army. The soldiers now fought for money, and there was a decline in patriotism and loyalty among soldiers. They pledged their allegiance not to Rome, but to individual military leaders. However, the pay was low and the money for weapons was not enough. Another recruitment problem was that Christians were unwilling to fight. Most of the people in the Empire were Christians, because Christianity was the official religion of the Empire.
POLITICS
Roman politics, however, grew increasingly corrupt. Politicians became more interested in financial gain than in public service. As a result, many citizens lost their sense of pride in the government. They no longer showed a willingness to sacrifice for the good of Rome.
