Half-Full or Half-Empty?
Half-full or Half-empty?

How many of us grew up believing in Peter Pan philosophies that thinking happy thoughts would make everything better? Or at “every clouds has a silver lining”, “the glass is always half-full?” and that no matter how awful life is has been “there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.” Otherwise, you were at varied enormous principle, raised on the belief that by thinking the worst of everything and everyone, you’d be better prepared for disappointment…

Psychologists believe that an optimistic attitude is the stairway to success and contentment. It has shown that a positive thinker is more resilient in the fare of difficulties, but they also have healthier lifestyle habits and can cope with stress more easily. And being an optimist has also some benefits, it can reduce tension and enhance emotional being. They’re noted for their ability to see the good of everything, viewing the world as a place of full adventure and opportunity.

Pessimism brings loss. It ruins hope and possibilities. If a person is pessimistic, he/she doesn’t hope for a better future neither do something to achieve. He doubts his ability to overcome the obstacles along the way. At the end, he/she will just stay where he/she is, without making progress. Because pessimism, people can waste years, even their whole lives.

There are ways on how to overcome pessimism and be an optimistic. First, find a cause you believe in. A “cause” from the bottom of your heart has a blazing courage that can overcome any pessimism. For example, if you think that you can’t pass the test in your school, just bear in mind your true purpose of that test and make you inspiration as a tool for you to make it. Read inspiring stories and connect to your spiritual source. We all know that are strength is limited. By praying, you connect a supernatural force that gives strength you need. For many people, this is the stronger power source.

Focus on the possibilities, not

But hey, just look on the bright side. I mean it’s always darkest before the dawn. If you dream it, you can do it. Watch. No? Oh well. America today is decidedly and unwaveringly optimistic, we are positive thinkers. Positive thinking is defined by one of its leading advocates, Dr. Charlene Proctor as “the process of choosing positive emotions to create an outlook that translates into a new or better-chosen reality.” In short, our thoughts and attitude can affect the course of the outside world, so we should strive to be positive to reap positive outcomes, while stifling negativity for the opposite reason. We praise the optimist while shunning the pessimist. But the question is does every cloud have a silver lining? In order to show positive thinking as the dangerous paradigm that it is we will first examine the causes of positive thinking, move onto its effects, and then finally round out with solutions.…

Rodolfo Costa once said; “Cultivate an optimistic mind, use your imagination, always consider alternatives, and dare to believe that you can make possible what others think is impossible” (Goodreads). Remaining positive has always held an important role in my life. I strive to find positives in every negative situation, and remember that I can always learn something from it. Sometimes changing the way you view a situation can make all the difference. Even through times where I have had every reason to give up, I have chosen to keep a positive attitude. I have found that when I decide to do this, it makes me significantly happier, and I take much more away from the situation.…

In life, one can look at life two ways. One can be an optimist, a person who has a positive outlook on life and no matter what is going on one always-thinks positive. However, a pessimist is the pole opposite of an optimist. A pessimist is a person who has a negative outlook of life and always thinks of the negative in any situation. A great example of an optimist and pessimist view is in Voltaire’s Candide, tells the story of Candide an illegitimate nephew of a German baron. He lives and grows up at a baron’s castle. His teacher Pangloss teaches him. Pangloss teaches hint that this world is “the best of all possible worlds”. Candide falls in love with the barons beautiful and young daughter named Cunégonde. One day,…

In Optimism and Physical Health, there was a study conducted to find out the relationship between optimism and physical health outcomes. According to their findings, the data suggests that optimism is a significant predictor of physical health. I would have to agree with this study and I find it validating. One thing that I found interesting in the article was the significance of pessimism and physical health. We learned from the study that optimism can have a positive effect on physical health but we also learn that pessimism can have a negative effect on physical health. According to the article Optimism and Physical health, “It may well be the case that it is the presence or absence of pessimism that is important in determining physical health outcomes rather than the presence or absence of optimism”(p.247). What this is telling me is that having the presence of pessimism can have a more negative effect on physical health rather than the positive effect optimism has on physical health. To summarize, “In general, it is clear from this review that optimism is related to physical health. It is also clear that the link between optimism and health is stronger for subjective health outcomes than for objective health outcomes” (p. 248). This study really shows this information and it can be said that for future…

“There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so” (Shakespeare 2005 cited in Spoors .et. al. 2007).This quote from Shakespeare suggest our thinking makes something to be good or bad. It is really a strange phenomenon. I have read a story about a pessimistic girl. Her life was so boring and despair that she became more and more dissocial. In her sight, she only could saw every ugly thing, like a small blain on a clean face. She even said an impressive sentence “When everyone was born, he was starting to walk to die.” Then the pessimists can’t believe everything in society. In their sights that human nature is selfish, the world is ugly .Whatever they do, they still can’t cover the truth that people is shame, love is unreal, life as a play. Such as Arthur Schopenhauer even said “Life is a desire, if it couldn’t be meet, we would pain, but if it could be meet, we would bored. Life is always swinging between the pains and…
