In this poem, “1943” by Donald Hall, hall is telling of a high school student who lost his final round in the heavyweight finals. After high school he left for the war and shortly after enlisting “died in the third wave at Tarawa” which was similar to his last experiences in school. In lines four through six Hall states, “Every morning of the war our Brock-Hall Diary delivered milk from horse-drawn wagons to wooden back porches in southern Connecticut.” This quote leads us to the theme “As war goes on, as does life.” He talks about how everyday life still goes on even though “marines bled to death in the surf”. In line ten Hall states “- with frostbitten feet as white as milk.” He is showing symbolism by comparing soldier’s cold white feet…

On Wednesday July 2nd, 2014 I visited Wiley Mildred Family Day care center to observe a group of children that I have never met at a house I have never been to. Throughout my hour that I spent at Wiley Mildred I observed a group of children interacting with each other as well as the caregivers as they were having their outside privileges. As I conducted my observation I studied children’s actions and noticed the practicing of the Sociocultural Theory, the Social Learning Theory, the Cognitive Theory, and the Psychoanalytic Theory. All these theories were able to be observed through actions this is due to their environment around them and the activities they were engaged in. The observation taught me how significant an action can be for a developing child and how important it is for a child in a care center to be mentally and physically stimulated.…

Through 37 years as director of the Yale Clinic of Child Development (later renamed Yale Child Study Center), Arnold Gesell pursued the task of observing and recording the changes in child growth and development from infancy through adolescence. Gesell is a maturationist; his descriptions of developmental patterns in childhood emphasize physical and mental growth that he saw as determined primarily by heredity. By carefully observing children in his campus school, Gesell established norms or typical behaviors of children throughout childhood. He categorized these typical behaviors into 10 major areas that he called gradients of growth (Gesell & Ilg, 1949)…

Childhood development and it 's implications to entire continents, nations, or more specifically, societies and cultures has gone through much research and development in the past decades. To illustrate, the research and development of childhood theories today involves theorists such as Jean Piaget (1920, e.g. child intellectual development) and Freud (1933, e.g. components of personality) to more recent…

Throughout the session, we saw different stages of physical, cognitive and socio-emotional during childhood. Despite the fact that most of what we saw was not new to me, I think I have a large depth of my knowledge about it. For me, the aspect about which I learned the most is cognitive development. From this aspect, the development of memory, private language, and types of intelligence are the three concepts that have impressed me the most. But I already knew that these three concepts are interrelated to each other AND to other aspects of child development (especially physical).…
