Define Halloween For most people, Halloween is another day on the calendar, but for others it is a celebration of uniqueness. Halloween is a way to bring communities together and allow everyone to be whomever they want to be for the day. This liberating feeling has drawn the attention of millions of people worldwide. Over $6 billion dollars is spent towards Halloween each season. But what does it all mean? What makes up Halloween?

How Do We Define Halloween?
If you were to look in the dictionary, there would be standard entry stating that Halloween is on the 31st of October. Nothing in that description would clue a person into what the holiday stands for, or what makes it so special.
• Unique: Halloween isn’t like any other holiday that we have. Halloween is about getting to dress up and honoring death instead of living in fear of it. Halloween is about pulling together as a community and providing family
Different cultures throughout the world address the holiday in different ways. Some cultures leave out food for their deceased loved ones. Some hide in fear because they have wronged someone in the past and fear their ghostly revenge. There isn’t a right or wrong way to remember the dead.
• Acceptance: There are many people that go through life feeling that they can’t be accepted. This could be due to how they dress or how they act. Halloween gives them a day where they can be accepted for who they are. This acceptance isn’t just individual, Halloween provides cultural acceptance to a wider audience.
• Fun: Above everything else, Halloween is fun. Halloween brings communities together and it brings families together. Families take children out to trick or treat and allow them to interact with the community.
