This episode captures the mood by placing the main cast into the Hamlet universe where each character embodies an individual from Hamlet. The roles are as follows; Homer is King Hamlet, Bart is Prince Hamlet, Marge is Gertrude, Lisa is Ophelia, and Moe is Claudius. These characters introduced a wild take on Hamlet based on their personas in Simpsons. Laertes played by Ralph, emphasizes this by making Laertes seem incompetent and a puppet of Claudius. During the duel that takes place between Laertes and Hamlet in the original play the outcome is change from the original play by having Laertes stab himself with poisoned
sword without ever touching Hamlet.
The change of the plot that the writers of Simpsons place on Hamlet moves the timeline much faster than it occurs. Without thought many characters act within a matter of seconds and decision making is reduced. Unlike the original, Hamlet dies by slipping on blood and dies. This shows a second view of the story.
