Compare and Contrast

To compare and contrast both Hamlet and Young Goodman Brown is hard at first. When thinking about the two stories at first, you think there is nothing in common. When rethinking about it you can see the similarities. They both encounter a problem that changes their lives forever, and not for the best. They are also very different in what happened to them.

For the worst part of the similarities is that their lives changed forever on the negative end of the stick. For Goodman Brown he met with the devil’s worshipers in a dream and saw a lot of people he knew and their flaws. Seeing this made him become self-centered and he lived a lonely rest of his life. In the story of Hamlet, his uncle killed the King, which was his father. He and his mother spent the rest of the time trying to get revenge and all three ended up dying.

Now, the two stories are very different because like I said before Hamlet’s father was murdered. The difference is that Hamlet had no control over the situation. I believe that Goodman Brown did, he made the choice to meet with the devil’s worshipers even after the love of his life had begged for him not to go. Both had difficulties with dealing with the outcomes.

The last thing the two had in common was the women in the stories. Both Ophelia and Faith had significant impacts on the men. Faith did not want Goodman Brown to leave her and Ophelia helped Hamlet plan revenge for the death of her husband and his father. Both played major roles in the stories.

Overall, I believe that the stories had more in common hidden things then differences. The two stories are great stories and I would definitely recommend others to read it.

These two books are both written by the same author only a year apart from each other. From the two books I read these books were very good but I have to say one of them tops the other one from the way the author tells the story, and how he uses slang to make it seem like it is an actual person instead of just a character in a fictional book. Andrew Smith can write two completely different stories but there are some major similarities and differences in the way he writes them and with his style.…

In the texts Brave New World and Hamlet, there are two entirely diverse stories that share similar protagonists. Despite being from completely different worlds, Hamlet and John share a lot of things in common. They both face severe alienation from their mothers and from people that attempt to use them. Coincidentally they also both use their friends as a relief to cope with their experiences. With the assistance of Horatio and Helmholtz the protagonists gain the courage to stand up to any adversity that comes at them.…

A common feature in both plays which represented the context in which the plays were composed was the obvious pre-occupation with morality. In Elizabethan times death was accepted more as a normal event as people did not live to be very old and there was an obvious pre-occupation with the idea of mortality and the afterlife. Hamlet is no exception to this as the play is concerned with death from the start, as we learn that Hamlet’s father had been killed. It is not strange at all that the ghost of Hamlet’s father appears and speaks to him. This reflects the context in which it was composed. People used to be entertained by such encounters with the dead in plays and believed strongly in death and an afterlife. The number of deaths that occur in Hamlet is also not surprising as audiences in Elizabethan times were very much pre-occupied with dying and felt comfortable watching it on stage. They also remained true to their beliefs that tragedy could only happen to famous figures. This is partly due to the distinct social classes in England at the time and it was not considered a tragedy so much if a peasant died. Therefore Hamlet is a product of an Elizabethan context in that it is pre-occupied with mortality throughout the play and audiences were comfortable with it because of their strong religious beliefs.…

Hamlet (prince of Denmark) can be greatly compared to Laertes (son of a noble), and Fortinbras (prince of Norway) in the play. They all are very similar but yet different at the same time. They all had love and respect for their fathers and felt the need to avenge their deaths, which all were brutally killed. All three believed that the murderers had dishonoured their fathers as well as themselves. They all reacted and took different approaches in attempt to restore honour in their families.…

The characters in both are incredibly alike. Mufasa and King Hamlet equally ruled their kingdoms in peace and prosperity. After their deaths however, they became much more then the kings they once where. They became a martyr of sorts. The sons were compelled to avenge their deaths and take responsibility for what their uncles have done. The villains in both The Lion King and Hamlet can be similarly compared to one another as well. Both Scar and Claudius are brothers of the king, murder their sibling to seize the throne, and take their brother's wife as their queen.…

Even though one of the characters is lion and the other is 17th century Prince of Denmark, they both have to deal with the same conflicts and the same…

Hamlet was a man that looked up to his father throughout his life, during and after his father's death. The younger Hamlet tried to follow in his father's footsteps, but as much as they were alike, they were very much different. The man named Hamlet had a son named Hamlet and after everything was over, that is one of the few things that they had in common. Although they may exhibit some similar traits, all fathers and sons are individuals. They are, or will become, their own man. This development is based on life experience, which is never the same for any two people. In the case of King and Prince Hamlet, this is true.…

A comparison is something that could be defined as examining two or more things and finding differences or similarities attached to them. In the world today, many people compare different things when they choose to purchase something, or they are talking about other people. In the world of literature, many things can be compared whether it be settings, symbols, or even characters; there is always something that is able to be made into one. Hamlet by William Shakespeare is about a prince names Hamlet, on his quest to avenge his fathers untimely death, as per his uncle, Claudius. Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling is about a boy named Harry, and his quest to avenge his parents' deaths, and save the world in which he lives. For both characters, Harry and Hamlet, there can be many similarities found between the two. By delving deep into the two characters, one can find major similarities in their circumstances, motivations, and settings that they are found in.…

The father-son dynamics of these two plays are not the only similarity. In both plays, concepts of sanity and otherworldly figures come into play. Hamlet is literally haunted by the ghost of his father, and fluctuates between lucidity and passionate fervor. At certain points in the play, Hamlet’s sanity is questioned by many. At the same time, Willy from Death of a Salesman creates memories and seems unable to accurately perceive the world around him. Willy and Biff are also haunted by memories of the past (mainly revolving around Willy’s marital disloyalty) though these ‘hauntings’ do not happen as explicitly as they do in Hamlet. The concept of sanity, and even the concept of reality is brought into question in both plays, ranging from Hamlet’s ghostly visions to Willy’s imagined…

The main characters Hamlet and Craig show unparalleled emotions, and contain many of the common symptoms of the unrelenting disorder of depression. While they are set in two totally different time periods, both characters acted similarly, and their outlooks on life intertwined .Particularly Hamlet was more vocal about his thoughts about his feelings because he made them public in his soliloquies, while Craig tended to be more private about his depressive feelings, and didn’t make his suicidal feelings public until he called the hotline to seek help. Both books represent the harsh reality of having a mental disorder, and the unwarranted effects they can have on a person’s daily…
