I believe that was due to all of the questions I wanted to ask the client in the assessment process. It was also time to build rapport, to meet the client where he was in the moment, and of course to be genuine. I believe anything after that is pretty much repetitious although, I did get some other information after those 20 minutes that I believed to be very useful and had not been stated prior. Assessing a client is second nature or it should be, but at the same time it is nothing to dive into without being cautious of where the client is at the time. We as social workers cannot fire off questions like we are shooting off a machine gun, the questions should be thoughtful, purposeful and caring.
