Her mother died when she was born and later her father remarried to the most beautiful woman of them all who had a mirror to tell her what she wanted to hear. She would always ask the mirror “Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all? You, oh queen, are the fairest of them all” (Grimm 83). This shows that the stepmother needed that reinsurance that she would always be the most beautiful woman in the land and that the only way it should be. As snow white got older the more beautiful she became, and the stepmother noticed. So she went to her mirror and asked the same thing but instead of hearing what she always hears the mirror told her “My queen, you are the fairest one here, But snow is a thousand times more fair than you “ (Grimm 83). The queen became insanely jealous of snow white and ordered a huntsman to take her to the woods and murder her and bring back her heart and lungs. When it came time for him to murder snow he could not because he got a look at her beauty and felt bad so told her to run and never come back. He came back with the lung and heart, but the queen soon found out that it was not snow whites. The queen made many attempts at killing Snow White, trying to make the bow to tight so she could not breath, giving her the comb and nothing worked till her last attempt with the apple. They both had to overcome the harsh and unfair treatment because of something they could not control. In Hansel and Gretel their own mother who is supposed to love and care for her children did what most mothers would not do. She put her own selfish thoughts above her children and got rid of them. In Snow White the stepmother was so jealous of Snow that she wanted her dead and because she wanted Snow to be gone so bad it drove her crazy. Both Snow and Hansel and Gretel had a hard time with not being wanted by someone they believed should love them, but it did not break them it only made them stronger and they found a way to make it even when they were left on their own to survive and care for
