Chris and Erica have to consider whether existing businesses will compact their new startup in a positive or negative way. Lena recommended that Chris and Erica perform a formal SWOT analysis, this will help them better understand the competitors in surrounding area. Completing the SWOT analysis will help them make sound decisions on ways to boost profits, and bring in a steady stream of revenue. The analysis will help them in determining their strengths and weaknesses as well as those of their competitors. By identifying the strengths and weaknesses of their competitors, this will give Chris and Erica an advantage when their Corner Café is actually open, and allow them to craft a customer experience that will exceed customer expectations. Considering their menu, the quality and quantity of their product, and price will determine if their café will be able to attract customers. Erica made a great decision to use local produce for fresh produce, this is not only a way to support the community but it can also attract customers. Because we live in a more health conscious society, using the fresh produce will give Corner Café a competitive edge. Offering a menu that offers fresh, organic, unprocessed food contributes to this social factor and gives Chris and Erica an additional advantage.…

SWOT Analysis: Starbucks External Environment: Opportunities: Company adopted many new initiatives throughout the years. Some of those include the replacement of the automatic espresso machines by a new machine called Mastrena. Mastrena is smaller than the current equipment and thus allows more efficiency; it also allows the barista to make direct eye contact with the customer. The company also acquired the Coffee Equipment Company, maker of Clover (brews coffee by the cup). Introduction of the Rewards Card, which is pre-loaded and gives customers more flexibility in the way they purchase Starbucks products. International expansion (form partnerships abroad for a quicker adaptation). Arrival of new products and services Stronger presence in supermarkets (increased exposure). Industry Environment: Pretty weak around the early 1980s but grew drastically between 1989 and 1999 (number of specialty coffee retailers grew from 585 to 12,000 and reached 24,000 the end of 2006). Threats: Competitors: Dunkin Donuts (vanilla spice coffee, Pumpkin Latte), McDonalds (McCafes, www.unsnobycoffee.com). From the opening of its first cafe in London in 1971, during the British rock music explosion, Hard Rock has been serving food and rock music with equal enthusiasm. Hard Rock Cafe has 40 U.S. locations, about a dozen in Europe, and the remainder scattered throughout the world, from Bangkok and Beijing to Beirut. New construction, leases, and investment in remodeling are long term, so a global strategy means special consideration of political risk, currency risk, and social norms in a context of a brand fit. While Hard Rock is one of the most recognized brands in the world, this does not mean its cafe is a natural everywhere. Special consideration must be given to the supply chain for the restaurant and its accompanying retail store. About 48% of a typical cafe’s sales are from merchandise.…

The first Hard Rock Care opened its doors to the public on June 14, 1971, in London, England. It was founded by Isaac Tigrett and Peter Morton, two enterpirising and big time, music loving Americans. The Hard Rock Café was an instant classic, attracting large crowds of customers with its first rate, but appropriately priced casual American fare, warm service and ever-present rock and roll music and sensibility. Although it was initially decorated with an eye towards eclectic Americana, the Hard Rock Café has ultimately become the world’s leading collector and exhibitors of rock and roll memorabilia. Hard Rock Café began its global expansion in 1982 when Tigrett and Morton agreed to develop their own Hard Rock Cafes in various other parts of the globe. Morton opened Hard Rock Cafes in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago and Houston. Tigrett opened locations in New York, Dallas, Boston, Washington, D.C., Orlando, Paris and Berlin, eventually selling his interest to Mecca Leisure. In 1990, The Rank Group, PLC, a London-based leisure company, acquired Mecca and continued expansion of the concept in their geographic territory. Rank then acquired Hard Rock America from Peter Morton, and Hard Rock Canada from Nick Bitove. With these acquisitions, Rank consolidated worldwide control of the Brand, and with it, one of the most universally recognized trademarks. Hard Rock Café has become a truly global phenomenon. From its launch in London, England, to New York, Los Angeles, Paris and Tokoyo, and on to such exotic and far-flung locations such as Kuala Lumpur and Shanghai, Hard Rock offers a special experience to its devoted, ever-changing and expanding clientele. Its unparalleled memorabilia collection, which consists of more than 60,000 pieces that are rotated from restaurant to restaurant, provides the world’s most comprehensive “visual history” of rock and roll. These treasures include an awe-inspiring collection of classics guitars and other instruments,…
