In 1922, Harry Truman becomes the county judge for Jacksonville, Missouri.
He served through 1922-1924. Ten years later, Truman is elected as the senator of Missouri. While senator, he was on the Senators Appropriations Committee. While on the committee, he helped distribute tax money for Franklin Roosevelt's new deal projects, and investigated railroads. In 1944, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, knowing he would probably die in his 4th term, elected Harry Truman as his vice president for that term. As Roosevelt predicted, he died on April 12, in 1945. On that same day, Harry Truman took oath to office, and became our nation's 33rd
president.
When Truman began his presidency, the U.S was in the midst of World War II. During the first six months of his presidency, Harry with no experience in foreign policy, was put in charge of ending a world war. He also had to make the decision on whether or not to drop the nuclear bomb on Japan. During only his first 6 months of presidency, Harry Truman announced Germany’s surrender, bombed Hiroshima, bombed Nagasaki and signed the United nations charter. After the war, Russia wanted to remain in control of eastern Europe. Because of this and the exclusion of Russia from the reconstruction of Asia, the cold war began. Harry Truman came up with a policy, called Truman Doctrine. This policy was made to counter russia’s geopolitical hegemony, and to give military support to any democratic nations from communism. This policy protected many nations from communism, with the two main success stories being Greece and Turkey. Truman served for two terms before resigning on January 20, 1953. On december 27th, Harry S Truman died in Kansas City, Due to Pneumonia.
