Hatred Hatred is one of the strongest, most passionate feeling a person can have. It consumes a person and takes over their life. When someone hates, their thoughts and actions are taken over by a want to destroy the object of their hate. People will commit unfathomable actions strictly because of hatred. In many cases, people are willing to trade their freedom just to spite someone they hate. So what is the driving force that fuels the hatred in our world? To answer this question, we must define what hatred is. Webster defines hatred as, “intense hostility and aversion usually deriving from fear, anger, or sense of injury.” From this definition, we can see that hatred is not just some petty anger. Othello and Cassio both think of Iago as a friend, but throughout the play, Iago tries and succeeds at destroying them both. You may ask, “What did Othello and Cassio do to make Iago hate them?” The simplest explanation is that Othello gave Cassio a military position that Iago felt he deserved.
