In my essay I am going to explain if Buddhism is a religion or not. Personally I think it is a religion because Buddhism is a way of life on the teachings of a man who lived in northern India more than two and a half thousand years ago. The followers called him Buddha. Buddhists think that he had discovered the truth about life. Buddhists want to get enlightened by doing good things and by meditating. They both believe in reincarnation (something bad happens to you it's because of something you did in a past life) and also being vegetarians. In the following paragraphs I will explain why people might agree or disagree with the statement.
To decide whether Buddhism is, or is not, a religion depends on how the word “RELIGION” is defined. Lots of people have their favourite definition; some think that theirs is the only valid meaning for the term. Some people might think that Buddhism is not a religion because Buddhists are not asked to believe anything on trust, they are free to study the teachings carefully and come to their own conclusions. For other religions there are certain orders for example Christians and Jews have the 10 commandments and they have to follow them. In addition Buddhism lacks a lot of the features of other religions. It has neither a God nor prophets nor holy text. It could be said more a philosophy than a tradition religion. Also in all religions you must have a God but Buddhism doesn’t have a God they have a spiritual leader which is the Buddha. People get confused whether the Buddha was a God. Well the answer is No. Buddha was not a god, never claimed to be a god, and did not call himself a god.
In some ways Buddhism is like a religion, religious features include people thinking that Buddhism is a religion like others because it has temples where people making offerings in front of images and statues. This is like Hindus who go to the temple and pray to Gods and make offering in front of images and also
