A Vault (French voûte, from Italian volta) is an architectural term for an arched form used to provide a space with a ceiling or roof.[1] The parts of a vault exert lateral thrust that require a counter resistance. When vaults are built underground, the ground gives all the resistance required. However, when the vault is built above ground, various replacements are employed to supply the needed resistance. An example is the thicker walls used in the case of barrel or continuous vaults. Buttresses are used to supply resistance when intersecting vaults are employed. Social order is a fragile concept; the most extraneous of details can cause it to spiral into chaos. In The Crucible, the inhabitants of Salem, Massachusetts experience the unforgiving disruptance of social order. Many attempted to end the witch trials promptly to the start of them, but their sacrifices rendered futile. John Proctor, a farmer, was the only citizen of Salem whose sacrifice made a significant, positive, impact on the restoration of social order.…

In the image provided, it appears builders used keystone-shaped, linear stones in a series of impost blocks to create the rounded portion of the upper half of the vault. This technique would have provided a superior level of support for the imposing structure that potentially existed above it. In another example of a barrel vault used at the site, the upper portion of this vault appears to be composed of conglomerate rock and concrete. The space beneath this vault is deeply trenched, which is assumed to have functioned as either areas for a furnace or running heated water. Though still very sturdy, this vault type seems to have afforded less support for what may have been positioned directly above it.…

"The vault is an arched structure used to hold up a ceiling or a roof (HA)." It is used to hold up building like houses or even tunnels. We use these today worldwide. "space, or a structure composed of various curved elements in various combinations, built of brick, concrete, stone, etc., and sometimes of plaster and wood to suggest something heavier. It is primarily a ceiling over a space, but may also be a roof, and it may carry a floor or roof."(encyclopedia.com) This quote shows how vaults are used throughout the USA. Obviously vaults have a big impact on today's society and roman architecture and engineering made structures like the vaults that many modern day people use. We see vaults today in tunnels and large houses.…

Introducing the ribbed vault, pointed arches and the flying buttress. The ribbed vaulting was like a skeleton to the cathedral it looked beautiful but also helped the building to stand tall. In the video, they make an experiment on how the pointed arches would work and how to keep them from falling. They found out that the pointed arch could go higher but the weight pushes out in a specific spot. But to avoid the arch from pushing out they had to position a flying buttress on each side of the arch. But the flying buttress had to be position at the right spot or they would be useless. Like in France, they have a great cathedral called Amiens that had that problem the arches were cracking because the flying buttress was position too high up. They did solve this problem with a more modern material iron. They put iron links around the cathedral to help it to stay which work like another…

“The Odyssey” written by Homer was overall a fantastic story. But what really made the story so great was that the whole story was like a journey of life. The reason being was that, in the story the characters were confronted with challenges, struggles and decisions to be made. Anyone could relate to this because this is what life brings to every individual. Challenges such as defeating the Cyclops and fending off an angry crowd angered by the killing of Antinous can metaphorically be related to challenges that life would bring you today. In addition, the way the characters moved on from the challenges that were presented to them can teach you lessons about life and show you how to handle life’s struggles, thus showing how the story is like a journey of life. Let’s further explore how the story is indeed, like a journey of life.…

The Summoner’s appearance isn’t one of his best traits. He has sores/boils all over his face; narrow eyes like an ostrich; thick eye brows. He doesn’t dress well, drinks too excess. Many suspected the Summoners of taking bribes, seducing young innocent girls. Not only does he have there confidence, but "ful prively a finch eek coude he pul"( Gen Pro line 654). A mitosis lab was recently done. An experiment was performed that studied the each phase in the cell cycle. The hypothesis for this lab stated, "Interphase will be the longest phase and anaphase will be the shortest phase.” Mitosis is the process where of cell division that results in two daughter cells each having the same number and kind of chromosomes as the parent nucleus. The cell cycle is the cycle of growth and asexual reproduction of a cell, consisting of interphase followed in actively dividing cells by prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase. Therefore, it would make sense for each phase to take a certain amount of time. Onion cells were looked at, each going through a phase of the cell cycle. Tally marks were kept for the number of cells that displayed a certain phase. It was found that interphase had the most tallies and metaphase had the least.…

Othello by William Shakespeare, the role of Desdemona, Emilia, and Bianca portray how women were during the 15th century. Women were portrayed as being loyal to their husbands; doing what they are told, and not going against their husband’s judgment or actions. These women represent three different characteristics in which women are being recognized in Othello. The women in Othello represent various levels of class, virtue, and intelligence. Desdemona is aristocratic, virtuous, and makes her own decisions; Emilia is the middle class, a maid, manipulated by Iago and loyal to Desdemona; and Bianca is the bottom of the line, being represented as a strumpet. Iago states how women are weak, lazy, and inane and only desire physical pleasure.…
