Dear Parents,
We at Mrinal’s Childcare have decided as a precautionary measure to prevent the outbreak of head lice among children. We have compiled some information on the subject to help you if your child or children already suffer from the same or to prevent your child from getting it.
This is in no way meant to scare or offend anyone but is just a routine check that we follow on our facility.
What are head lice?
Head lice are very tiny parasitic insects that live in the hair of the scalp and suck blood for food. They spread only from head to head by close contact.
A child can get lice for not washing hair for a long time or on coming in contact with people infected with head lice. Also on sharing items, such as pillows, blankets, clothing, headphones, brushes, combs, hair decorations, towels, hats, helmets, stuffed toys etc., belonging to an infected person.
If a child has intense itching in the scalp, fever or swelling of the lymph nodes, lice on the scalp, lice eggs or nits on hair shafts or small, red bumps on the scalp, neck and shoulders, immediate treatment should be taken.
Where to go for treatment?
Over-the-counter anti-lice products are available. Use a special nit comb to help rid the hair of nits.
Even the health care provider may prescribe, and give directions for using the anti-lice products.
How to prevent a recurrence?
Make sure all the family members and household helps are checked as well. Childcare or school teacher should be informed so that the other children can be checked as well.
Bathe and shampoo hair often. Don't share combs, brushes, or hats with others. Wash combs and brushes in hot water regularly.
Do regular lice checks during the school year, examining every child's head
How to treat the condition?
Use an anti-lice shampoo, or regularly comb the child's hair with a lice-comb.
