Head Lice
Prepare information for parents / carers whose five year old child has head lice.

Dear Parents,

We at Mrinal’s Childcare have decided as a precautionary measure to prevent the outbreak of head lice among children. We have compiled some information on the subject to help you if your child or children already suffer from the same or to prevent your child from getting it.

This is in no way meant to scare or offend anyone but is just a routine check that we follow on our facility.

What are head lice?

Head lice are very tiny parasitic insects that live in the hair of the scalp and suck blood for food. They spread only from head to head by close contact.

A child can get lice for not washing hair for a long time or on coming in contact with people infected with head lice. Also on sharing items, such as pillows, blankets, clothing, headphones, brushes, combs, hair decorations, towels, hats, helmets, stuffed toys etc., belonging to an infected person.

If a child has intense itching in the scalp, fever or swelling of the lymph nodes, lice on the scalp, lice eggs or nits on hair shafts or small, red bumps on the scalp, neck and shoulders, immediate treatment should be taken.

Where to go for treatment?

Over-the-counter anti-lice products are available. Use a special nit comb to help rid the hair of nits.

Even the health care provider may prescribe, and give directions for using the anti-lice products.

How to prevent a recurrence?

Make sure all the family members and household helps are checked as well. Childcare or school teacher should be informed so that the other children can be checked as well.

Bathe and shampoo hair often. Don't share combs, brushes, or hats with others. Wash combs and brushes in hot water regularly.

Do regular lice checks during the school year, examining every child's head

How to treat the condition?

Use an anti-lice shampoo, or regularly comb the child's hair with a lice-comb.

Environment Removing a Tick Lyme Disease It seems like everyone has their own home remedy for removing ticks, such as using heat or even using nail polish. But according to the CDC (Center for Disease Control), the proper technique to remove a tick is using fine tipped tweezers and to pull upward without twisting to prevent the tick’s mouthparts from remaining in the skin. Then finish the process with cleaning the area where the tick was attached using rubbing alcohol or soap and water.…

    H. G. Program: Case Study

program will be evaluated over a nine-month period while the preschool is in session. The program will be over seen by the Connecticut Department of Public Health. Each place will be observed and evaluated at the beginning, middle and end of the school year. They will be evaluated on how many children contracted a respiratory or gastrointestinal illness during that nine-month period, how many children were absent during this time period and the overall hand hygiene process led by the educator and followed by each child. Every site will be given positive thoughts over the time period as well as ways to improve if necessary. There are a few limitations to the H.U.G. program. One limitation is that it is very time consuming for the state Department of Public Health to make it out to all sites within a nine-month period. Another limitation is that each child is not evaluated outside of school. The child would be practicing proper hygiene at school but unfortunately there is no way to check outside of the school environment. However, they will be instructed to wash their hands when they arrive at the site and before they leave for the day. These limitations could possibly change the results slightly but should not affect them…

    Competency Goal 1 Essay

Children are not very self aware of what causes others to get sick whether its by someone else or by objects they play with. So any child that presents himself as being sick I give a little more supervision to so that the other children don't get sick. This includes making sure that noses get wiped and hands washed right after, children cover their mouths when coughing or sneezing and again hands get washed right after, and that any one feeling the urge to throw up gets to the bathroom. Around the room on days where there is or was a sick child present I do extra sanitary measures while children are in my care to prevent the germs from spreading. To accomplish this I always make sure that the bathroom is clean and stocked with toilet paper-soap-and paper towels, I have children wash hands regularly before and after meals-after using the rest room (we also have a instructions in bathrooms to tell and show proper hand washing)-after coming in from outside-and any other time it washing is needed, We have a separate specially equipped body fluid kit with instructions on how to clean, sanitize, and dispose of any bio-hazards properly, toys that are played with by any child who is sick immediately gets sanitized after use (if cant fully sanitize yet put up and away form children till can), and bedding for each child is labeled and cleaned at the end of each week. We have a daily schedule that we follow for…
