As a support worker current legislation and codes of practice that relates to handling information in my work place are: Data Protection Act – Records keep on my service user has always been kept in a secure place for example his medication records which are store in a lock cupboard. The documents about my service user have only be used for the purpose they were collected. My service user care plan and other documents are normally only available to those who need to see them for example social workers, doctors etc.
The Freedom of Information Act – Information and records kept by health professionals about my service user are sometimes share with him when he requires to see the information. Access can only be denied to him if there is a danger to him or others, or confidential information is included about another party.

GSCC codes of practice relating to confidentiality – I try maintaining clear and accurate records on my service user daily as required by procedures established by my company. I understand that all information that is recorded about a service user is confidential.
Appropriate use of information - I always justify the purpose for which my service user information is needed before I share his information.

Legal requirements and codes of practice in handling information at my workplace requires me to keep my service user information up to date so if any changes I notice I would normally record it in the care plan. Any information regarding the service user shouldn’t be kept longer than necessary and store in a secure location for example my service user records are normally lock away in a cabinet within the flat to prevent accidental loss, destruction or damage.

At work I try to maintain my service user records that are already up to date, complete, accurate and legible by signing and dating every piece of documents relating
