An old saying “Health is Wealth” explains us that to be healthy is literally to be wealthy. Getting healthy doesn’t only means getting a good physique only but it also means having a healthy mind. In Pakistan there is very much work done by the government for the health issues of people but its not satisfactory by any means or I would say that the government most of the times cared for the urban population only.
We see there are only few cities in Pakistan comprising of all the basic necessities a society needs for the health care. Namely cities like Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Peshawar are the grounds for urban population. This is only 10 to 15 % of the total population in which the government has shown interest in health care facilities since 1947. There are government hospitals which do cater 30 to 40% of the urban population. In the present time the explosion of the population bomb has outnumbered all these facilities. We need more hospitals in the urban area as well as in the rural area which is already deprived of the basic health necessities including water purification and sanitation facilities.
Opponents might say that why the government should be responsible for all these health issues? Its main purpose is to run the country’s affairs not to waste time in thinking and spending so much in public health. They have a valid reason when they say Pakistan is a poor country!
I would say did anyone ever realize why Pakistan is a poor country in spite of having all the resources a developed country has? It’s because our main resource, the human resource is always neglected. None of the government ever tried to develop its population neither technically nor physically. They are the same people who voted them in the referendum and give them the way to the luxurious parliaments. They are the workforce of the country and they should be given every chance to
