Health Hazard Polictogram: A Case Study

The health hazard pictogram is a red diamond with a human head and half torso with an exploding heart. This pictogram indicates after long periods of exposure can cause health problems. The following health hazards include Acute Toxicity, Skin Corrosion, and Serious eye damage, Carcinogen, Mutagenicity, Reproductive Toxicity, Respiratory Sensitizer, Target Organ Toxicity and lastly Aspiration Toxicity. Acute toxicity is contact of the skin or ingestion symptoms occur within 24 hours, or 4 hours when inhaled. Skin corrosion is damage to the skin that is permanent after 4 hours of contact. Serious eye damage is damage to the eye tissue within 21 days of contact. Then there are more serious hazards that can be life threating. Carcinogens are the hazardous chemical that may cause cancers, such as asbestos, certain dioxins, and tobacco smoke. Mutagenicity is the capability to alter and mutate genetics, an example of mutagens are radiation. Reproductive toxicity is a hazard relating to interfering with the reproductive system in males causing adverse effects on sexual function and possibly fertility. In females the development of a fetus, to include birth defects, a chemical example of reproductive toxicity is ethylene oxide. Respiratory sensitizer is an allergic reaction
They all have a risk that can be very damaging to an employee in various ways. Two of the more serious health hazard would be Respiratory sensitizer being that when someone is exposed to a chemical that restricts the airway can cause death and also aspiration toxicity also can be a quick damage and can lead to death also. The hazards are not instant but do have long term effects and can cause many complications to the human body, and eventually can lead to death but treatment can occur reversing some of those effects, but not
