Bottled Gas
Mains gas is most likely to be piped natural gas. The most serious risk to human health is via a leak, however small, in the piping system that transports the gas inside the building. Natural gas is a mixture of hydrocarbons, including methane. It is colourless and odourless, which makes a leak difficult to notice. Exposure to high levels of natural gas quickly causes unconsciousness and even death. Exposure to low levels can cause dizziness, nausea or heart palpitations.
It has this affect because it is reducing the oxygen in the air of the room and filling it with carbon gases. Bottled gas is a generic term in the U.K., but in this context I am using it to specify LPG, or liquid petroleum gas. It is usually propane, butane or a mixture of
