The complaint also said generic user names and passwords were created to access a database of 911 callers’ medical information, giving anyone that information the ability to anonymously access personal medical records. Could you imagine? You call 911 in hopes of getting help and they transfer you over to a “medical hospital” to explain your injuries or needs, where they take your medical records and email them to whomever. To me, that is a big violation of HIPAA. We should not have to worry about our police officers, none the less, spreading our private medical information like wildfire.
You have a right to protect your medical information. Everyone is aware and you can fight those who choose not to comply. If you are transferred over to a “hospital” when you call 911, please do not give out your information, you may end up being a victim of HIPAA violations.
