Plot Summary: Jefferson went with the “wrong crowd” and ended up at the wrong place at the wrong time. This “bad” choice resulted in him being convicted of murdering Mr. Grope, the white storekeeper. After his godmother, Miss Emma heard the defense attorney say he wasn’t as smart as a hog; Miss Emma asked Grant Wiggins to teach Jefferson how to be a man before his execution. Grant hates the idea, but Aunt Tante Lou won’t take no for an answer and Vivian, his girlfriend, convinces him it’s the right thing to do. During his jail visits with Jefferson things didn’t go well. Jefferson refused to talk, eat and at times acted like a hog. As time went on Jefferson and Grant became friends and Grant brought him a radio and gave him a notebook to write down his thoughts. During all this time Reverend Ambrose was more concerned with making sure Jefferson was saved and would go to heaven. Grant didn’t believe in heaven so he couldn’t help in that area. He was more interested in making Jefferson realize he had an opportunity to be a hero.…

According to Gravells (2012) in order to be a successful and ‘good’ teacher it is essential that you teach your specialist subject in a way that will actively involve, engage and encourage your students during every lesson. It is also important to remember that it is not just the teaching that takes place within the lesson but it is also crucial to focus on the learning. There are a number of different ways to describe what being a good teacher is however instead of just creating a list of what a teacher should be…

The student I have been working with is a fifth grade, below level student. The student will be named Sally. Reads fairly fluent, but has inconsistent reading comprehension as well as fluency. At the beginning of the year, the average fifth grader should be reading about 125 words per minute. By the end of the year that same fifth grader should be reading about 165 words per minute. Sally is very below other students who are in the fifth grade. An average fifth grader should be reading 125-165 words per minute by the end of the year. Sally is reading an average of 87 (when rounded) words per minute. Compared with other grades she is reading somewhere between the end of first grade and the beginning of second grade. She is very much below level. She was given the Jennings Informal Reading Assessment.…

At Park Elementary, a variety of assessments are used to evaluate the performance of the students. A DIEBELS Assessment is used to evaluate our students’ performance in reading for grades kindergarten thru fourth. The test is administered three times a year including the months of September, January, and May. The teachers analyze and use the results of the DIEBELS testing to place students in three different reading groups during reading instruction. The groups are divided by using a color coding system of red, yellow, and blue. Students are placed in the blue group (mastery) if they are advanced in reading, yellow (strategic) if they are on grade level, and red (intensive) if they are below grade level in reading and need intensive reading instruction. Teachers are required to differentiate instruction during the time that students are divided into the three “flexible” groups. Benchmarks scores, Unit testing scores, and results from LEAP and ILEAP scores are utilized to evaluate the performance in the upper grades. These scores are also used in order to determine group placement and provide differentiated instruction in reading for upper grade levels as well. In addition, differentiated instruction is determined in all grade levels for math by students’ weekly test grades, benchmark scores, and in the upper grade levels, ILEAP and LEAP scores are used to determine placement of students in groups and to provide differentiated instruction. The data from all of the assessment tools are analyzed and used for school improvement by providing us with a guide or map to show us which skills or subjects we are mastering and which skills we need improvement on. It also allows us to analyze our data to determine how we will differentiate instruction to meet the…

Teachers should have a positive attitude when going over material and answering questions; students feel more comfortable and are less afraid to ask questions. If a teacher presents an I do not care attitude, the students may feel discouraged to learn the material. Teachers with a sarcastic attitude also give off bad vibes that can often start an argument; this dilemma can take up class time, which leads to students not receiving the information. Teachers should be motivators and willing to help when help is needed. Students love teachers who have a positive attitude and like to have fun; it makes it easier to learn and gives the student something to look forward…
