Food is everywhere millions of children have obesity in which is a problem because of the marketing, advertising, fast food industry and how we choose to cook. Most children don’t have healthy eating habits or even parents don’t try to have healthy choices provided for their children. Childhood obesity and juvenile diabetes are on the rise. “This may be the first generation that has a shorter life expectancy than their parents,” said an author of a report in New England Journal of Medicine (Want). America has the biggest obesity problem in the world but it’s a global problem, and it causes bad health which shortens lives, and leaves families grieving for loved ones. Obesity affects nearly one in five children; likely in the future involve heart disease, diabetes and immobility (Jamies).
British chef, Jamie Oliver states “This food revolution is about changing the way we eat. We need to start cooking again to make sure our children don’t grow up on a diet of processed food, at school or at home, and so they won’t have to battle obesity and diet related illnesses when they grow up. Cooking is one of the most important skills a person can have and it has been proven that families who cook together eat better. A small change in your kitchen could save the like of someone you love.”(Jamie)
Time and time again, we hear kids eat out too much, lack the proper in take of the correct vegetables, fruits and meats. Parents are not on same page to learn how to make healthy choices. Do you like feeding your children processed, starchy meals, and junk food? Do we not know how to make these healthy choices? Or are we just lazy? I truly believe making healthy choices takes time, extra energy, and more money. As adults we don’t want to take the extra time, because our lives are so busy running our children, doing errands, etc. It’s simple, easy to pull into those convenient stores; fast food restaurants drive thru’s and eat your meals on the go.
