A. Attention Getter: According to the American College of Cardiology, in 2008, cardiovascular disease caused over 616,000 deaths, making it one of the top leading causes of death.
B. Reason to Listen: I’m sure for as long as we can remember, we’ve been taught that cardiovascular disease is the number one killer today. It’s true, it is. However, it’s more important to know what specific condition can kill, rather than the umbrella term. We may know what heart attacks are, but not many can identify the signs or symptoms of which a heart attack is about to occur.

C. Heart Attack- lack of blood/oxygen flow to heart
Stroke- Lack of blood/oxygen flow to the brain (National Stroke Association)
Cardiac Arrest- Heart’s electrical system malfunctions and/or stops
