Problem Statement: Chronic diseases – such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and obesity – are the most common and leading causes of death in America.
Impact of Affordable Care Act of 2010 The Affordable Care Act is a health care reform law, which was made to make healthcare affordable and available to more people. “An estimated 30 million Americans were expected to gain health insurance through the Affordable Care Act” (HERITAGE) causing many people who suffer from chronic diseases to now have coverage for their medical needs. Survey research is one of the most important areas of measurement in social research. It involves asking questions to various respondents and come up with a conclusion. Some examples of what surveys can be used for is to find out how many people have a chronic disease, if it’s in the early stages or more developed, if they’re happy with the services they’ve received, and if they feel like the costs of the services rendered are worth the money. This council is chaired by the surgeon general and consists of various secretaries and administrators from different federal departments. They’re in charge of National Prevention and Health promotion strategies. The are four main strategies highlighted which consists of promoting health and safe environments, clinical and community preventive services, empowering people to make healthier choices, and elimination of health disparities. Along with ACA establishing a council a good solution to this problem is ACA itself. In the past many couldn’t afford health insurance but due to the lower cost and more healthcare being available we can now go to our PCPs (Primary Care Physician) more often and take care of any health conditions we may have earlier on in our lives. Getting screenings and appropriate follow-ups done are essential in order to save lives and reduce medical costs in the long-term
