Argumentative Essay: The Affordable Care Act
In 2010, President Obama enacted the Affordable Care Act. It place health insurance reforms which makes health care more affordable. It allows people to be in charge of their healthcare. This act has benefits for women, young adults, seniors, businesses, and pretty much everyone. It has many benefits such as providing protection against Health Care fraud, holding insurance companies accountable, consumer protections, improving and lowering healthcare costs, and allowing easier access to health care. It provides many benefits and people are more likely to go to the doctor when they really need to. As we all know, it can be costly to go to the doctor. On the contrary, congress should make health care available for everyone at a nominal cost. Socialized health care system. Yes, Socialized! A very scary concept! Providing health care for everyone should be the government's responsibility just like building parks, freeways and most importantly, the public education system. The access to affordable healthcare is a basic human right. It should be part of the infra-structure. Making healthcare more affordable does improve the situation, but then again, it can be a threat to liberty. Allowing Congress the kind of power to be able to enforce people to do something that they may not want to do is a major problem for a democratic country. These days, a trip to emergency room will cost you a pretty penny, and god forbid you get diagnosed with some type of cancer, you and your whole family will become slaves for the hospital bills. So yes, making healthcare cheaper is important, but forcing people to buy healthcare is not constitutional and should be up to each person. In my opinion, the majority of people will eventually realize how important it is to purchase some kind of healthcare coverage, and they will do so. The whole point I am trying to reach is that Congress is violating our freedom to make this important
