Hedonism argumentative paper #1
February 27, 2017
So you believe in Hedonism? In my second argumentative paper, I will be talking about whether or not Hedonism is socially acceptable and I will be stating information I have researched and also my own thoughts and opinions on this subject. In this paper I will be stating three main arguments/points that I agree with and I will also be stating some things that I do not agree with but I will mainly be stating what I do agree with. Hedonism “refers to several related theories about what is good for us, how we should behave, and what motivates us to behave in the way that we do” (Weijers). This quote is stating that Hedonism is basically the reason that …show more content…
In this article it is also talking about how even if you enjoy what you are doing in the beginning you will not enjoy it in the long run. In this article a person named Epicurus is talking about how Hedonism is not really a good thing. He states in the article that “you can’t very well go around stealing food off others people’s plates just because you are hungry, or forcing unwilling partners into bed. If you do, you will quickly end up suffering a great deal more pain than any pleasure you might have enjoyed” (Zmirak). Epicurus is saying that in the beginning what you are doing is fun and you maybe even want to do what you were doing even longer and more but eventually you will get caught, if you are doing something illegally, or you will just not be enjoying what you are doing. I think that this is very true in today’s time and also in the past. I think that Epicurus was right when he also stated that “Looters might have fun smashing windows and stealing appliances, but their chances for gratification will be radically curtailed once they’re locked in prison” (Zmirak). This statement goes along with Epicurus statement when he was talking about when people think that what they are doing is okay until they get caught and get in trouble for …show more content…
We’ll begin our assessment of his teachings by exploring his views of pain and pleasure” (Verlarde). Anthony Robbins is comparing Hedonism to neurology, basically saying that Hedonism is a disorder of the nervous system. Robbins Also talks about how everybody is driven by pain and/or pleasure in their everyday lives. Robbins states that “Everything you and I do, we do either out of our need to avoid pain or our desire to gain pleasure” (Verlarde). This quote is supporting Robbins earlier claim of everybody being driven by pain and/or pleasure when making decisions. I agree with what Robbins is saying when he says that everybody has a reason for the things that they do. When people do things to feel pain or pleasure it could be towards themselves or others. With the pleasure they could just be doing something kind towards others and the pain could be towards themselves or being mean to those around
