Helen Keller My Hero Essay

My hero is Helen Keller, the girl who was both deaf and blind yet still succeeded in life and did not let her physical disabilities get her down. Helen is my hero for quite a few reasons actually. A few of those reasons are I admire how much she achieved throughout life, how caring she was toward others, and how determined she was. She is most certainly a strong, achieved, caring, and courageous woman. She was an inspiration to many others like her back then and still remains an inspiration to many today. Helen Keller has achieved very many things. One of those many things includes being the very first deaf and blind person to earn a bachelor’s degree. In 1900, Helen gained admittance to Radcliffe College in Cambridge and in 1904, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. In 1948, Helen Keller was sent to Japan by General Douglas MacArthur as America’s first Goodwill Ambassador. In 1952,Keller was awarded with The National Order of the Southern Cross by Brazil and the Legion of
Helen Keller was involved in very many campaigns and other charitable events. In 1924, she began a very successful campaign called the "Helen Keller Endowment Fund.", which gave special services to many blind and deaf children, as well as older people.They volunteered to teach sign language to the deaf, Braille to the blind, and more.It was a very helpful and successful campaign and she was respected for starting it. In 1924, Helen Keller joined the newly formed American Foundation for the Blind (AFB), an American non-profit organization for people who are blind.Her personality and reputation helped her get large contributions for AFB from wealthy people including Henry Ford and John D. Rockefeller. She traveled across the United States for AFB and helped create rehabilitation centers and state commissions for the blind.
