have more duties in the ruling body.
Socrates also has a strong belief that the people should learn to think for themselves. They should be independent thinkers that do not conform to common beliefs. I agree with this because the common belief in Ancient Greece is that women should not have role in the government, but if people were to really think about that issue, they might have different thoughts than what is commonly accepted. If people were free thinkers, they might start to think that women could do more than run a household, and could even run the government.
Another idea that Socrates had was equal education for boys and girls. I would agree with this idea because I would like to see that girls have the same opportunities as boys to become whatever they have the skills for. It would not just be boys or girls born from wealthy families either, children would be chosen for school based on their personalities rather than social class or wealth.
Most of Socrates’ ideas correspond to the fact that people should think for themselves and challenge the common beliefs. Because of this, it is hard not to agree with most of Socrates’ ideas. The only way that I will be able to gain supporters is if people start thinking for themselves and challenging common beliefs, mainly the belief that women are inferior. I agree with Socrates’ statement when he says, male and female animals can do the same work, so why can’t men and women? I think that it would be good for the city of Athens to start thinking in a different way so that we can develop and grow into a stronger civilization.
