Heroes And Heroes In A Post-American Civil War
In recent days we have lived, and continue to live, a crisis that has impoverished many people and has changed the priorities of many people; but in my childhood the crisis for many people was perennial. In all crises, those of before and now, there are always a few who have much, almost everything or everything and many who have little, little or nothing. The heroes and heroines I want to talk about are those men and women, fathers and mothers, who have belonged or belong to the group of those fighters with scarce resources.
I think I am not mistaken if I say that there is nothing worse in life than a war, and if it is a civil war among the inhabitants of the same town, it is without a doubt the worst of misfortunes. Our civil war and its post-war period was an evil that I do not desire to anybody; I just want to mention it to locate the

They were very brave. You have to be brave too, in such a tough time, to look at life with hope and choose to form a family despite the difficulties. I will never be able to thank my parents enough for their union and their decisions.
I must admit that everything was a great sacrifice for my parents. They raised, educated and nourished me with their effort and work, we must assume how complicated it is and I'm eternally grateful. And, of course, many of my memories lead me to the kindness and solidarity that came out in each of the houses. In those times the 'solidarity favors' and acting in a detached way gave strength to the people.
I remember my mother, who was a nurse, giving injections at home to the neighbors in solidarity, while they remove me from kisses and squeezed me between her enormous arms. The heroes and heroines of old did the extraordinary things. The heroes and heroines they spoke about, including my parents, were simply

My parents are the hardest working individuals I know. Both, my mom and my dad, made and continue to make sacrifices to this day. It all started about 5 years ago. My Dad moved to San Diego to acquire more income for me and my family, leaving my mother with 3 children. This was a very difficult time for each of us, but I would like to think for my Dad even more. Coming from a small island, Guam, he had to adapt to this whole new culture in Southern California, by himself. He had to work, eat, sleep by himself and make time out of his day to talk to his kids. This was an emotional time for him too because I know after a couple years without seeing your kids, life…

My mom never depended on a man to pay th4e bills or bring food to the table she had herself and that’s all she needed. She made proud my aunt and my brothers and sisters, but most importantly she made herself proud for raising eight kids without the help of a…

The Killer Angels is the book I chose to read for my American Civil War Documentary project. It is a historical novel about real people in history and real events. The story takes place in the small town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania in 1863 during the Civil War. Gettysburg was the site of one of the most significant battles in the American Civil War, and this book describes the three day event in great deal.…

Though the Union and Confederate soldiers both fought for the victory of their nations, each side had its own reasoning and purpose for doing so. Soldiers relied on their families from home and in battle for encouragement. They wanted to fight not only for their nation, but for their family at home. They didn't want to let them down, alongside of their nation. Their family in regiments was just as beloved. They all felt the same pain and pride, therefore becoming closer to one another. They'd watch each other win and watch each other die. Backing out of it was the last thing they wanted to do and be considered a coward. Soldiers had rather die of honor than live a coward. They were all in it together and that bond with each other kept them from giving up. The leaves that were given gave those enlisted a break from the soldier life for a short period, which was a great privilege. The problem was that the leaves were abused and soldiers wouldn't come back when their time was up, therefore being a deserter. The government wasn't in control enough to do anything about the deserters.…

The Radical Republicans, known simply as the “Radicals”, were a faction within the Republican party who were fervent opponents of slavery. Arguably the most successful and influential among the Radical Republicans was Pennsylvania Congressman Thaddeus Stevens. Stevens despised the institution of slavery and fought for its dissolution in the decades prior to, during and after the Civil War. Stevens fought for emancipation, black suffrage, property rights, and racial justice.…

My heart pounds beneath the thick armor like plating that covers my chest. My shoes click and clack on the pavement like a metronome. My brothers are lined up in front and beside me, all wearing the same attire but thinking different thoughts. We march down the black road that seems to stretch for miles to the stadium, reminiscent of the gladiatorial colosseum in days of old. I can just make out our opponents, their white uniforms standing out from the green field like starlight. Our chanting rings out through the night “We are!” I bark, “United!” my brothers roar in reply. This war that we are about to wage, this battle we will fight, this is the glorious game of football.”We are!” I bellow, “United!” They wail. And this night is the very last night that I will don this blue and red armor, for this is my senior night.…

And since my parents never showed even the slightest signs of weakness, fatigue, or dejection, I grew up under the warmth of their radiant, loving smiles. However, looking back, I took a lot for granted, mistakenly believing that everything they did for me was merely expected. Similarly, I regret all those stubborn and meaningless arguments I’d have with them over the minute details. At these moments, I did not recognize how grateful and fortunate I actually was to have such devoted, loving parents.…

This sacrifice taught me that sometimes in life we as people have to make very challenging choices in order to receive the best long term results. Growing up, she always reminded me to think for the future and not just in the now. She has also taught me to become independent. By being forced to be a mother figure at the young age of 17, she had to learn how to everything on her own, raise 10 children, and take care of her ill father. This is the reason why I always try my hardest to get the best out of life. I feel that I should always take advantage of every great opportunity. To begin with, I remember the arguments; quarrelling over what was his and what was hers when before it had all just simply been ours. My mother worked and paid for most of the things so nearly everything went to her and thinking back now, it was probably on that account that I chose to live with her. I would obviously still get the occasional chance to stay with my father and what a state he was in.…

Each of our stories is part of the vast and sweeping patchwork of history. There may be many things we do not know, even about our own parents, that might yield surprising insights about who we are. Your story may be more colorful than you ever imagined; your parents and grandparents may be activists, rebels, adventurers, brave soldiers and generally involved in history in ways that you have never thought about. They may even have registered significant firsts in some important aspects of national or community life, achievements that you certainly would want to know about and celebrate in retrospect.…
